<p>Definition</p> <p>The office of Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein is seeking qualified applicants for the position of full-time Attorney in the Solicitor General's Section of the Civil Division. The Solicitor General's Section serves as affirmative litigation counsel for the city. The section has either brought cases itself against the state and federal government or worked closely with outside counsel in preparing and bringing litigation. In addition, the section has written amicus briefs in various cases in Ohio and federal trial and appellate courts. Due to changes in the way the state and federal government have been processing and handling grants, this position will work with section management to evaluate terms and conditions of those grants, whether those terms and conditions are appropriate, and whether those terms and conditions may violate federal, state, or local laws.</p> <p>Preferred Knowledge of:</p> <ul> <li>Legal principles of constitutional law, civil law, the Ohio Revised Code, Columbus City Codes, Federal & Ohio Rules of Civil Procedure, Federal & Ohio Rules of Evidence, and Ohio Rules of Professional Conduct; </li><li>Legal, court, and judicial procedures, rules, terminology, methods, documents, practices, and objectives; </li><li>Legal research tools and methods; </li><li>Negotiation techniques and methods; </li><li>English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and composition; </li><li>Ability to think creatively and come up with solutions to issues; </li><li>Ability to work effectively with persons from all socio-economic and cultural backgrounds; </li><li>Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others. </li><li>Ideally, has experience reviewing grant agreements with federal, state, and local agencies. </li></ul> <p>The anticipated starting salary for this position will be between $80,000 and $115,000 depending upon experience.</p> <p>Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Must currently be admitted to the Ohio bar and in good standing; </li><li>Must have a minimum of 3 or more years of litigation, appellate advocacy, and legal research and writing experience as a licensed attorney; </li><li>Must have experience litigating cases in federal and/or state courts. </li></ul> <p>About the Civil Division:</p> <p>Located at 77 N. Front, the Civil Division represents the city and its employees in contract disputes, claims for personal injury or property damage, constitutional violations, wrongful death, tax disputes, and claims requesting money damages.</p> <p>For more information, please visit our website: www.columbuscityattorney.org</p> <p>A person who has been selected by an appointing authority in accordance with the Columbus City Charter, Section 148(1) is said to have received an unclassified appointment. Those individuals receiving unclassified appointments serve at the pleasure of their appointing authority and may be terminated from employment at any time.
