<p>The Philosophy & Theology Department at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, MI, a Catholic</p> <p>Liberal Arts Institution in the Dominican tradition, invites applicants for a full-time, position as</p> <p>Assistant Professor of Philosophy, to begin August 2026. We seek a collegial teacher-scholar,</p> <p>with specialization in the thought of St. Thomas Aquinas and his sources, ideally including Latin</p> <p>and Arabic sources, capable of teaching the History of Philosophy and the Systematic areas, and</p> <p>who is competent to teach foundational Theology courses in faith and morals with a mandatum.</p> <p>Candidates must be willing to support the Catholic and Dominican mission of Aquinas College</p> <p>as expressed in its mission statement specifically, and in the spirit of Ex Corde Ecclesiae</p> <p>generally.</p> <p>This is a full-time, nine-month position paid over twelve months, benefits eligible, with the</p> <p>intention of appointment to a tenure-track line, beginning August 2026. Opportunities for</p> <p>summer teaching may be available. The Assistant Professor will work under the direction of the</p> <p>Department Chair and the Provost.</p> <p>PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>Teaching and Service: Teach undergraduate courses in Philosophy and Theology, including</p> <p>Philosophy courses grounded in the thought of St. Thomas Aquinas and foundational Theology</p> <p>classes in faith and morality. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester (24</p> <p>credit hours per academic year). Related responsibilities include maintaining office hours,</p> <p>advising and mentoring students, supervising independent studies and senior capstone courses,</p> <p>recruiting students, pursuing scholarly activity, and participating in departmental and college-</p> <p>wide service.</p> <p>Scholarship: The successful candidate will develop and maintain an active program of</p> <p>scholarship or professional development in Philosophy and/or Theology, with particular attention</p> <p>to Thomistic studies and the Catholic Intellectual Tradition. Candidates are encouraged to</p> <p>involve undergraduate students in scholarly research where appropriate.</p> <p>Perform other duties as assigned.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>Qualified candidates will hold a Ph.D. or be able to demonstrate near completion of a Ph.D.</p> <p>(being ABD), in Philosophy or Theology with a specialization in the thought of St. Thomas</p> <p>Aquinas. Demonstrated competence in teaching the thought of St. Thomas and his sources, the</p> <p>history of philosophy, systematics, and course in Catholic foundational theology in faith and</p> <p>morals is required.
