The position of Associate Counsel is responsible for performing the following duties:</p> <ul> <li>Providing legal, policy and budget analysis, and central staff support, for the Senate Majority Conference on matters referred to one or several other committees. Particular emphasis will be placed on knowledge and experience within the health and mental health policy field; </li><li>Tracking related legislation active in the state Senate and Assembly; </li><li>Making oral presentations regarding relevant bills under consideration by the state Legislature; </li><li>Drafting memoranda analyzing policy initiatives and state legislation; </li><li>Preparing briefing materials in their respective standing committees for members of the Conference; </li><li>Assisting Senators in preparation for public hearings, roundtable discussions, forums and other public meetings and events; and </li><li>Meeting with relevant advocacy and constituency groups. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications To move forward, you must have:</p> <ul> <li>A bachelor's degree </li><li>Strong writing and oratory skills </li></ul> <p>All candidates are expected to live and work in the Capital Region of New York.</p> <p>Preference will be given for candidates with demonstrated legislative experience.</p> <p>Candidates who possess a Juris Doctor, or candidates possessing similar relevant experience and/or educational achievement may be alternatively considered for the title of Associate Counsel on a case-by-case basis.</p> <p>Additional Comments Salary range is $65,000 to $75,000, commensurate with education and experience.</p> <p>Interested candidates should submit a cover letter and resume to jobs@nysenate.gov.
