<p>Assistant Professor - Department of Philosophy</p> <p>FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT</p> <p>ABOUT THE COLLEGE</p> <p>John Jay College of Criminal Justice is a senior college of the City University of New York (CUNY) and an internationally recognized leader in educating for justice. Area of specialization: open but with preference for candidates with expertise in philosophy of technology and AI Ethics. Area of competence: open. The hiring committee is especially interested in applicants who contribute to the diversity mission of the college through their leadership, community service, research, and/or lived experiences.</p> <p>The successful candidate will perform teaching, research, and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise. They will also share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.</p> <p>Candidates are expected to bring enthusiasm and demonstrated commitment to teaching and to develop and maintain an active research and publication agenda. The department also participates in several multidisciplinary majors, including a BA in Humanities and Justice. Department faculty regularly teach in the Honors College, and several are appointed as doctoral faculty at the CUNY Graduate Center.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>PhD in Philosophy required for appointment to professorial title of Assistant Professor. Degree must be completed by August 1, 2026. We seek teachers and researchers committed to public higher education. Scholarly promise and demonstrated ability to engage successfully in undergraduate teaching are required, as well as willingness to work with members of departments across the College for the good of the institution, possibly including teaching in interdisciplinary programs and/or some team-teaching.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications : the successful candidate will have research expertise in philosophy of technology and AI Ethics.</p> <p>COMPENSATION</p> <p>$55,450- $105,593.
