<p>Assistant Professor - Department of Philosophy</p> <p>FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT</p> <p>ABOUT THE COLLEGE</p> <p>John Jay College of Criminal Justice is a senior college of the City University of New York (CUNY) and an internationally recognized leader in educating for justice. Led by President Karol V. Mason, John Jay is a federally designated Hispanic-serving institution, it is ranked third in the nation in Black student success, and it is a top ten institution for promoting student social mobility. John Jay is proud to serve a diverse and dynamic student body of 15,000 students that includes nearly fifty percent students who are first in their family to attend college as well as students who are immigrants, from low-income families, or from other historically underrepresented groups in higher education.</p> <p>The College participates in the doctoral programs of the Graduate Center of CUNY, and offers bachelor's and master's degrees both in traditional criminal justice-related fields of study as well as in a robust portfolio of liberal arts and sciences programs that highlight themes of justice across the arts, sciences, humanities, and social sciences.</p> <p>The College seeks staff and faculty members who thrive in multicultural academic environments and are committed to access and excellence in higher education.</p> <p>POSITION OVERVIEW</p> <p>The Department of Philosophy invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to start in August 2026. Area of specialization: open but with preference for candidates with expertise in philosophy of technology and AI Ethics. Area of competence: open. The hiring committee is especially interested in applicants who contribute to the diversity mission of the college through their leadership, community service, research, and/or lived experiences.</p> <p>The successful candidate will perform teaching, research, and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise. They will also share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.</p> <p>Candidates are expected to bring enthusiasm and demonstrated commitment to teaching and to develop and maintain an active research and publication agenda. The successful candidate must be eager and qualified to work with our diverse student body. The department also participates in several multidisciplinary majors, including a BA in Humanities and Justice. Department faculty regularly teach in the Honors College, and several are appointed as doctoral faculty at the CUNY Graduate Center.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>PhD in Philosophy required for appointment to professorial title of Assistant Professor. Degree must be completed by August 1, 2026. We seek teachers and researchers committed to public higher education. Scholarly promise and demonstrated ability to engage successfully in undergraduate teaching are required, as well as willingness to work with members of departments across the College for the good of the institution, possibly including teaching in interdisciplinary programs and/or some team-teaching.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications : the successful candidate will have research expertise in philosophy of technology and AI Ethics.</p> <p>COMPENSATION</p> <p>$55,450- $105,593.
