No VP Area President Department 00475 - Student Media Council Location Campus City Salt Lake City, UT Type of Recruitment External Posting Pay Rate Range $12.00 - $13.00/h DOE Close Date 07/22/2026 Priority Review Date (Note - Posting may close at any time) Job Summary</p> <p>Student Media at the University of Utah seeks a student to serve as Platform Manager of The Daily Utah Chronicle, the independent student voice of the university since 1890. This position is responsible for managing and overseeing the marketing, audience engagement, distribution and business development of the newspaper to ensure its continued success and growth.</p> <p>The Platform Manager reports to the Student Media Adviser and works closely with the newspaper's editorial board. This position oversees the following areas: print and digital distribution, analysis and research, audience growth, quality control, and platform growth.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>Expectations</p> <p>The Platform Manager will provide input on publication goals and participate in regular reviews of progress. This role assists the editorial board and works and reports to the Student Media Adviser across the following areas:</p> <p>Vision & Direction</p> <ul> <li>Contribute input on the overall goals and strategic direction of the Chronicle. </li></ul> <p>Content Development & Publishing</p> <ul> <li>Understand and assist in managing website design and functionality. </li><li>Access digital analytics and provide regular reports to platform leadership and team members. </li><li>Train team members on how to effectively use social media to promote the platform and provide guidance on best practices for </li></ul> <p>social media content</p> <p>Print & Digital Distribution</p> <ul> <li>Deliver quarterly editions of the Utah Chronicle to on-campus locations. </li><li>Refill, clean, and repair newspaper stands and distribution racks. </li><li>Work with student leaders and staff to continuously improve distribution methods </li></ul> <p>Analysis & Research</p> <ul> <li>Learn to interpret data from Google Analytics and other digital platforms (email, social media, etc) </li><li>Develop and track key metrics (readership, audience engagement, etc.) to inform content planning and platform decisions </li><li>Provide regular analytics reports to editorial board and Student Media Adviser </li></ul> <p>Audience Growth & Engagement</p> <ul> <li>Manage marketing opportunities for the magazine through social media, events, advertising, and other on-campus promotion </li><li>Generate new ideas to grow and retain audience and assist in implementing those ideas alongside editorial board </li><li>Assist with on-campus events for Student Media as needed </li></ul> <p>Quality Control</p> <ul> <li> <p>Regularly review both print and digital publishing to ensure content is displayed correctly - e.g., print alignment and color issues, functioning web links, correct page display.</p> </li><li> <p>Note: This role does not involve editorial review; content quality is the responsibility of the appropriate content leadership (editors, etc.).</p> </li></ul> <p>Platform Growth & Development</p> <ul> <li>Coordinate with the advertising team to develop and pursue advertising opportunities and potential advertisers </li><li>Identify and research new content opportunities and publishing methods, and assist in training staff to develop content for those formats (video, audio, etc) </li><li>Collaborate with content leadership to explore new content opportunities </li><li>Maintain alumni lists and develop strategies to engage alumni </li><li>Assist with Giving Days campaigns and other fundraising efforts </li><li>Stay informed on best practices from other university media programs and apply relevant insights to improve the platform </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Must be a current University of Utah student.</p> <p>Preferences</p> <p>A currently enrolled University of Utah student in good academic standing.</p> <p>Genuine enthusiasm for journalism, news and media.</p> <p>A valid driver's license and clean driving record.</p> <p>Able to physically lift approximately 25-50 lbs. at a time.</p> <p>Familiarity with the Chronicle is a plus; willingness to learn the platform, its leadership, and its content is required.</p> <p>Experience working with or managing others in a team setting.</p> <p>Strong communication skills; self-motivated and efficient.</p> <p>Computer proficiency and willingness to learn new programs and software.</p> <p>Experience in marketing, brand management, or audience engagement or a strong willingness to develop these skills.</p> <p>Major or minor in business, strategic communication, management, marketing, or a related field preferred.</p> <p>Special Instructions Summary Additional Information</p> <p>The University is a participating employer with Utah Retirement Systems ("URS").
