<p>AEC Instructor - Reading</p> <p>Department: Adult Education Center</p> <p>Work Location: BPP - 72nd & Ames</p> <p>Employment Status: Part-Time</p> <p>Pay Range: $1200 for 8-week class: $300 x 4 pay periods</p> <p>JOB SUMMARY</p> <p>Under general supervision of the Director of AEC, The AEC Instructor is responsible for developing curriculum and creates, implements, and delivers educational programs for adult learners to achieve the goals and objectives of their Individual Academic Advancement Plan. Advises, assesses, and teaches students in the identified academic core subject of expertise.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <ul> <li>Develop and implement plans, and educational programs for adult students within areas of endorsement. </li><li>Presents and reinforces learning concepts within a specified subject or subject area. </li><li>Answers student inquiries and resolve problems related to curriculum, course expectations and student attendance. </li><li>Prepare appropriate documentation and reports on student progress. </li><li>Maintains a flexible schedule and office hours to accommodate adult-learner schedules. Able to commit to a minimum of 5 hours per week per class. </li><li>Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. </li><li>Is familiar with and follows expectations outlined in the AEC Program Manual. </li><li>Actively maintain a safe, healthy, and positive environment that promotes the physical and emotional well-being of employees, customers, and participants. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT & INTERPERSONAL SKILLS</p> <ul> <li>Personally participate in ongoing professional growth, education and development as well as supporting others in their efforts to develop. </li><li>Ability to interact effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds </li><li>Must have excellent working relationships with supervisor and co-workers </li><li>Must possess strong leadership and organizational skills </li><li>Must have effective verbal and written communication skills </li></ul> <p>ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT</p> <ul> <li>Educate customers and the community about the mission and vision of the organization. </li><li>Demonstrate the AEC core values through actions and words </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS</p> <p>To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <p>EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Education or related field required </li><li>Two (2) or more years proven experience in educational field required </li></ul> <p>CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS</p> <ul> <li>Current and valid Nebraska teaching license in secondary education with an emphasis in reading and/or basic literacy. </li><li>CPR/First Aid Certification preferred </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILIIES</p> <ul> <li>Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. </li><li>Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports. </li><li>Ability to access and promote a variety of assistive technologies. </li><li>Ability to evaluate, design, and implement curriculum, assessment, and/or teaching methodologies. </li><li>Knowledge of adult learning theory and methodologies. </li><li>Ability to address individualized learning needs. </li><li>Desire to serve the segment of the adult population that strives to improve themselves and their families through educational advancement. </li><li>Must maintain confidentiality and use discretion in dealing with sensitive or controversial issues and information </li><li>Ability to travel within the service area </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS</p> <p>Sedentary - indoor</p> <p>Lifting up to 10 pounds maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as dockets, ledgers, and files. Walking and standing are required occasionally.</p> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT</p> <p>Limited</p> <p>General office environment infrequently exposed to extreme atmospheric conditions (temperature, noise, fumes, dust, etc.)</p>
