The college is located on a one-hundred plus acre site at the intersection of U.S. Routes 11 and 100 in Dublin, Virginia. The campus provides modern, well-equipped facilities for the career technical education programs as well as for the college transfer programs. Approximately 5,000 students comprise the student body.</p> <p>The people employed by New River Community College promote the philosophy that all individuals should have an opportunity to develop and extend their skills and knowledge to increase awareness of their roles and duties as citizens. The college serves the educational needs of the public and assumes a duty to help provide the requirements for trained workers in the region through a combined effort with local industry, business, professions, and government. The college promotes equal opportunity for prospective students and employees.</p> <p>The EMS Adjunct Faculty position is responsible for providing high-quality education and training to students enrolled in the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) programs at the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) level. This role involves delivering didactics instruction as well as instruction focusing on psychomotor skills. The instructor will assess student performance in lab settings, ensuring competency in critical skills and procedures. Additionally, the instructor will prepare and organize instructional materials, foster a positive and engaging learning environment, and contribute to student success through effective communication and mentorship.</p> <p>Duties:</p> <p>The instructor must be available and committed to communicating with students throughout the semester to support their success in the course.</p> <p>Primary Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Deliver lectures and instructional sessions that align with national and state EMS educational standards. </li><li>Assist in planning, coordinating, and supervising students in the EMS laboratory setting. </li><li>Provide hands-on instruction and skill demonstrations for psychomotor competencies. </li><li>Evaluate student progress in achieving course learning objectives and provide constructive feedback. </li><li>Utilize diverse teaching methods tailored to accommodate various learning styles. </li><li>Implement effective testing and grading procedures, maintaining accurate student records. </li><li>Ensure adherence to program policies and industry standards in all instructional activities. </li><li>Stay current with EMS field advancements and integrate relevant updates into the curriculum. </li><li>Serve as an on-site instructor, monitor, or proctor for EMT classes. </li><li>Foster an inclusive, supportive learning environment that promotes student engagement and professional growth. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Virginia Education Coordinator certification. </li><li>A professional healthcare credential of EMT or higher(s). </li><li>Minimum of two years experience in emergency medicine / prehospital care. </li><li>Demonstrated knowledge of instructional methods, student assessment, and evaluation techniques. </li><li>Familiarity with the latest National EMS Scope of Practice Model and National EMS Education Standards. </li><li>Current certification as a Nationally Registered EMT (NREMT) and Virginia EMT. </li></ul> <p>Additional Considerations:</p> <ul> <li>AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Instructor. </li><li>Associate degree or higher in a related field. </li></ul>
