<p>Job Summary:</p> <p>This role is responsible for developing and optimizing welding processes, qualifying procedures and personnel, and ensuring compliance with industry codes and project specifications. The ideal candidate will bridge engineering design and production, with a strong focus on quality, safety, and fabrication efficiency.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Develop and qualify Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) according to relevant codes (ASME, AWS, API). </li><li>Provide technical guidance on welding processes, joint design, filler material selection, and heat input control. </li><li>Troubleshoot weld defects and implement corrective actions to improve quality and reduce rework. </li><li>Review and interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, and fabrication standards. </li><li>Conduct welder performance qualification testing and maintain welder certification records. </li><li>Support shop floor personnel with real-time welding process improvements and best practices. </li><li>Coordinate and review non-destructive testing (NDT) results and collaborate with Quality Assurance to address findings. </li><li>Maintain documentation for welding traceability, inspection records, and material certifications. </li><li>Assist in estimating weld times and materials for project proposals and job planning. </li><li>Stay up to date on advancements in welding technologies, processes, and industry standards. </li></ul> <p>Education:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline. </li></ul> <p>Experience:</p> <ul> <li>3-5 years of relevant welding engineering experience in an industrial or heavy fabrication environment. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge Skills & Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Solid understanding of welding processes (GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, SMAW), metallurgy, and fabrication practices. </li><li>Working knowledge of AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, B31.1/B31.3, and other applicable codes. </li><li>Proficiency in interpreting welding symbols, engineering drawings, and fabrication standards. </li><li>Familiarity with pressure vessel or structural steel fabrication is a plus. </li><li>Experience with automated or robotic welding systems is a plus. </li><li>Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methods desired. </li><li>Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills. </li><li>Excellent communication and technical documentation abilities. </li><li>Team-oriented with the ability to interact across multiple departments (QA/QC, Production, Design). </li><li>Detail-oriented with a focus on weld quality, compliance, and safety </li></ul> <p>Work Location and Travel:</p> <ul> <li>Location is at 2721 Mine and Mill Road, Lakeland, FL, 33801 </li></ul> <p>Work Environment:</p> <ul> <li>Primarily based in a fabrication shop with regular interaction on the production floor. </li><li>Exposure to high temperatures, welding fumes, heavy equipment, and noise-proper PPE required. </li><li>Occasional travel to job sites or vendor locations may be required. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements:</p> <p>Talk/Hear: The ability to communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders, and team members, as well as listen to customer feedback and market insights.</p> <p>Stand/Sit: Involves extended periods of sitting during meetings and desk work and standing during presentations or field visits.</p> <p>Walk: Involves walking to visit clients, attend industry events, and move around the office or other facilities to coordinate activities and interact with team members.</p> <p>Use hands/fingers to handle or feel: Involves frequent use of hands and fingers to operate office equipment, write reports, prepare presentations, and manage electronic communications and documents.</p> <p>Climb: Occasionally required to access higher areas for inspections or evaluations in retail environments or when setting up displays and promotional materials.</p> <p>Stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl: Occasionally required to perform tasks in confined spaces, such as setting up equipment or accessing low storage areas for product evaluations.</p> <p>See: Required to assess market trends, analyze reports, review promotional materials, and evaluate client presentations and marketing strategies.</p> <p>Carry, weight, Lift: Occasionally involves lifting to transport marketing materials, promotional items, and equipment for events or presentations, and manage physical resources needed for market development activities.</p> <p>Exposure to work: Occasionally required to engage in physical activities that involve moving the whole body.</p> <p>Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.</p> <p>Mid-State participates in E-Verify.
