MICA is a private art and design college nationally known for the high quality of its undergraduate programs, its dedication to student learning and teaching excellence, and its distinction in fine art and design at national and international levels. This position is planned as a one-year special contract with the potential for renewal for up to 3 years at a non-tenure institution. The preferred start date is August 2025.</p> <p>About the department:</p> <p>Interdisciplinary Sculpture emphasizes an integrative approach that fosters students' development of theoretical perspectives, technical mastery, and social relevance through practices ranging from traditional media to emerging technologies. The department works closely with other programs that share similar practices and methodologies, including Ceramics and FIber.</p> <p>MICA and the Interdisciplinary Sculpture program are committed to enriching our faculty and pedagogical viewpoints. We are a student-centered institution and candidates must be able to successfully teach, mentor, and empower a diverse population of talented and deeply-engaged students. Candidates who demonstrate a commitment to forwarding our goals are encouraged to apply.</p> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>Full-time faculty teach eighteen credits per year (3 courses per semester), ranging from introductory First Year Experience to senior thesis level coursework. We seek a committed artist and educator who can bring technical skill sets across a range of sculptural practices to the existing curriculum and contribute to a program that continually challenges ideas of what an artistic practice can be. Expertise in digital fabrication is of particular interest and candidates with a demonstrated pedagogical ability to investigate these technologies in poetic ways are highly valued. A cross-disciplinary approach to pedagogy and professional practice, along with leadership capabilities, are also of particular interest.</p> <p>In addition to teaching, full-time faculty are expected to pursue research and/or professional engagements that contribute to the educational mission of the Department and College. Faculty are also required to meaningfully contribute in a variety of areas that include: all aspects of departmental operations and curriculum development, institutional governance, committee service, advising, and scheduled department and student activities.</p> <p>Responsibilities Include:</p> <ul> <li>Teaching six undergraduate studio classes per academic year, (3 Fall, 3 Spring) </li><li>Participation in departmental and institutional service </li><li>Student advising </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree in a related field of practice </li><li>Strong record of professional excellence as demonstrated by a portfolio of work and a record of exhibition or other means of public engagement relevant to the artist's practice </li><li>Knowledgeable about contemporary art issues and theory and their relationship to broader social, cultural, and economic contexts </li><li>Personal commitment to teaching on a college level using pedagogical approaches that are relevant and responsive to a student body that is rich in diversity </li><li>Proficiency in traditional media including metal, wood, and casting </li><li>Expertise in emerging sculptural techniques including applications of digital fabrication </li><li>Capable of teaching beginning, intermediate, and advanced undergraduate courses </li><li>An expressed interest in the greater Baltimore community through teaching or practice </li><li>Three years of college level teaching beyond graduate assistantships or commensurate experience </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications (Not Required but Highly Valued):</p> <ul> <li>MFA or equivalent advanced degree in a related field </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>This is a one-year full-time faculty appointment that may be renewed for up to three years. The faculty are represented by the SEIU Local 500.</p> <p>Salary: Commensurate with experience and college policy ranging from $56,246 to 146,325.
