Working with the different faith communities and the diversity of the region's people, we address deeply embedded social divisions. Informed and influenced by the values and ethics of the faith traditions, we work with the community to find common ground on its issues. Using the tools of interfaith and cross-cultural dialogue, we create life-changing experiences that lead to actions for the creation of a more equitable and loving community.</p> <p>Overview of the Program Area:</p> <p>InterFaith?Works has a 39-year history of serving seniors by addressing issues of isolation and loneliness that people can experience as they age. The Center for Healthy Aging's programs and services promote activity, socialization and life-long learning, in order to empower older adults to age with dignity.??Our growing list of programs include: volunteer-based companionship and friendly visits for older adults living at home and in Long Term Care Facilities; respite for family caregivers; outreach and assistance to help older adults connect with the resources they need to age well; social activities, case management, and English classes for older New Americans; and Digital Inclusion classes. We also convene the Greater Syracuse Aging Services Coalition, which builds collaborative initiatives to promote social connection, racial equity and economic justice. Our programs reach diverse older adults in Onondaga, Cayuga, Madison and Oswego counties.</p> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>The Program Coordinator plans and implements volunteer-based activities that spark joy and social connection for isolated older adults, with a focus on serving family caregivers and people living in nursing homes. Using tools like music, art, intergenerational friendly visits, and caregiver education, the Program Coordinator engages volunteers to meet the social needs of this diverse population.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Sciences or related field preferred. Experience working with diverse populations of older adults and/or volunteers in human services or other related organizations.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <p>Program Planning and Execution</p> <ul> <li>Coordinate and implement engaging volunteer-based activities, events, and programs that meet the needs and interests of isolated older adults and caregivers </li><li>Coordinate logistics for activities, including booking venues, arranging supplies, setting up and tearing down event spaces, and ensuring all necessary materials are on hand </li><li>Ensure all programs are well-structured, run smoothly, and are executed in accordance with program guidelines </li><li>Foster an inclusive and welcoming environment for all participants, ensuring they feel supported and engaged throughout activities </li><li>Address any concerns or issues that arise before, during, or after activities to ensure a positive experience for all involved </li><li>Ensure that all activities comply with health, safety, and organizational standards </li><li>Maintain a safe environment for participants, addressing any safety concerns promptly and appropriately </li></ul> <p>Volunteer Development</p> <ul> <li>Support the recruitment, screening and onboarding of volunteers of all ages </li><li>Provide ongoing training and supervision to volunteers during their service activities </li><li>Oversee scheduling and supervision of each volunteer based on their program assignment </li><li>Serve as a resource to volunteers in their service, providing additional information and referrals to address needs and changing circumstances </li><li>Delegate tasks as needed, providing clear instructions and support to volunteers and staff assisting with programs </li></ul> <p>Community and Public Relations</p> <ul> <li>With support from the Development Team, create and distribute materials to promote events and activities (e.g., flyers, emails, social media posts) </li><li>Ensure activities are effectively promoted to the target audience, including through presentations, tabling, and meetings </li><li>Serve as a point of contact for volunteers and participants, providing information, answering questions, and handling registration or sign-ups </li><li>Participate in appropriate community organizations and coalitions that further the work of the agency and the Center for Healthy Aging </li></ul> <p>Evaluation, Documentation and Reporting</p> <ul> <li>Maintain a database of volunteer and participant information, including enrollment, attendance, participation, and other relevant data </li><li>Collect data to measure program success and identify areas for improvement </li><li>Monitor and manage event budgets, ensuring cost-effective use of resources </li><li>Provide regular reports to the Assistant Director on activity outcomes and recommendations for future programming </li></ul> <p>Other duties as assigned.</p> <p>Level of Decision-Making Responsibility: Medium</p> <p>Skills and Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Be committed to supporting diverse older adults and caregivers as they age </li><li>Must demonstrate multi-cultural competency </li><li>Demonstrate an ability to relate well to others and build strong relationships </li><li>Demonstrate an ability to work well as a member of team while maintaining responsibility for executing tasks independently </li><li>Must be able to work with initiative and creativity, and to handle a variety of tasks and responsibilities flexibly </li><li>Must be able to plan and conduct presentations and trainings for up to 25 people </li><li>Possess excellent communication and organizational skills </li><li>Be proficient?in Microsoft?Office Suite; knowledge of Office 365 and?SharePoint?a plus </li><li>Have an understanding of and value racial equity as an organizational operating principle and is committed to continued learning on issues related to race, equity, diversity, and inclusion </li></ul> <p>Working conditions and physical demands required:</p> <ul> <li>The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job: </li><li>Must have personal vehicle for regular travel throughout the service area; must be able to travel through the service area 50% of the time or more using personal, reliable transportation, traversing streets, ascending/descending stairs.
