<p>Description</p> <p>The City of Detroit's Department of Transportation (DDOT) is currently accepting applications for the Coach Service Attendant for the DDOT Vehicle Maintenance Division. .</p> <p>Under immediate supervision, the Coach Service Attendant cleans, services and performs basic preventive maintenance on automotive equipment and performs related work as required.</p> <p>Examples of Duties</p> <ol> <li> <p>Services automotive equipment in accordance with established methods and specific instructions given with work assignments.</p> </li><li> <p>Checks equipment for proper oil levels.</p> </li><li> <p>Drains, adds and changes oil.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs complete lubrication on automotive equipment.</p> </li><li> <p>Inspects, cleans and waters batteries.</p> </li><li> <p>Mixes anti-freeze.</p> </li><li> <p>Flushes and services radiators, and drains air tanks and separators.</p> </li><li> <p>Cleans automotive parts.</p> </li><li> <p>Operates cleaning vats.</p> </li><li> <p>Washes and cleans interiors and exteriors of automotive equipment.</p> </li><li> <p>Operates mechanical cleaning equipment.</p> </li><li> <p>Loads and unloads automotive and other materials and supplies by hand or with moving equipment.</p> </li><li> <p>Moves and stores automotive supplies in designated areas.</p> </li><li> <p>Assists in maintaining the simpler details or records of materials and supplies.</p> </li><li> <p>Notifies superiors when stock in shops, garages, bins or elsewhere is low.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs physical inventory counts.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains the orderliness of stock rooms, floors, bins and supply yards by sweeping, cleaning, raking and/or shoveling.</p> </li></ol> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>High school graduation or G.E.D required.</p> <p>Ability to read and write English and to understand and follow written and oral instructions.</p> <p>Licensing and Certifications</p> <p>Valid State of Michigan Driver's License</p> <p>Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Temporary Instruction Permit (TIP) within 45 days of hire</p> <p>CDL with Group B designation and Air Brake Endorsement within 90 days of hire</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</p> <p>Commonly used equipment and procedures for automotive preventive maintenance and cleaning.</p> <p>Understand and follow oral and written directions</p> <p>Display physical strength and dexterity</p> <p>Display mechanical aptitude</p> <p>Operate automotive equipment</p> <p>Perform all the duties of the classification.</p> <p>Distinguishing Characteristics</p> <p>Work is performed outdoors, with exposure to seasonal weather conditions, dust, and potentially hazardous cleaning materials.
