Yes VP Area Academic Affairs Department 00113 - College of Science-Dean Location Campus City Salt Lake City, UT Type of Recruitment External Posting Pay Rate Range $15 per hour Close Date 07/21/2025 Priority Review Date (Note - Posting may close at any time) Job Summary</p> <p>The College of Science at the University of Utah is seeking a part-time student intern for Summer Semester 2025 to complete writing and communication projects as assigned by the College's Science Writer and Associate Director of Marketing and Communications. The ideal candidate will have excellent writing and communication skills, and the ability to conceptualize scientific ideas into simple language on a range of projects.</p> <p>This internship allows for flexible work with some in-person meetings, events, interviews or other on-campus activities. The science communications intern must demonstrate the ability to work independently and within a team environment. Extensions of internship into following semesters possible but not guaranteed.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>Bachelor's degree-seeking students in English, journalism, communication, STEM, or related degree programs; excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills; familiarity with a variety of computer software (e.g., Google docs, MS Office); project management and strong interpersonal skills; ability to work both individually and in a team setting. Enthusiasm for advancing scientific inquiry and STEM education.</p> <p>Duties may include:</p> <p>? Writing articles/posts and acquiring images on deadline for print publications and/or college website</p> <p>? Creating social media content inspired by article creation</p> <p>? Researching scientific topics or history</p> <p>? Conducting interviews with College of Science faculty, alumni, students, researchers and staff</p> <p>? Attending select events for general science background/info/professional development</p> <p>? Accepting assignments to report on events</p> <p>? Developing copy for brochures, reports or other printed materials</p> <p>? Editing and proofreading content</p> <p>? Upon request, creating a "story log" of published articles for distribution to department stakeholders</p> <p>? Weekly check-ins with supervisor (remotely or in-person)</p> <p>?
