<p>Position Summary</p> <p>The Private Lands Forest Habitat Biologist is responsible for coordinating, leading, and providing technical and financial assistance to Deer Management Assistance Program (DMAP) members and other private landowners within the state. This includes providing wildlife habitat and deer herd management advice that aligns landowner goals with sound management practices, assisting DMAP members and other private landowners with applying for and complying with NRCS Farm Bill cost-share programs, and serving as a Farm Bill Program liaison for the Wildlife Management Program.</p> <p>For more information, please see the Position Description.</p> <p>Salary Information</p> <p>Starting pay for this position is between $31.00 to $31.53 per hour (or $64,480 to $ 65,582.40 annually), in addition to excellent benefits. This position is included in the classification Wildlife Biologist Sr within Pay Schedule/Range 15-03. Pay on appointment will follow the provisions of the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan. Travel statewide to assist other team members, attend meetings, and training may occur occasionally.</p> <p>Physical/ Environmental Factors: This position is required to work outside in cold and warm temperatures with exposure to the elements including insects, sun, and precipitation.</p> <p>Background Checks: The Department of Natural Resources conducts criminal background checks on final applicants prior to job offer. For instructions on developing your resume and letter of qualifications and what should be included in these materials, click here.</p> <p>Please describe the below qualifications in your resume and letter of qualifications to be considered for this position:</p> <p>Required qualifications include education, training or experience within all of the following criteria:</p> <p>Forest management, including commercial (e.g. timber sales) and non-commercial practices (e.g. timber stand improvement, shearing, etc.), and their application to wildlife habitat management.</p> <p>White-tailed deer ecology, including hunting and herd management.</p> <p>Wildlife conservation and habitat management principles such as population dynamics, habitat needs, forest, savanna, grassland and wetland habitat management that benefit Wisconsin wildlife.</p> <p>In addition to the above, preferred qualifications include professional work experience with a combination of the following:</p> <p>Private lands habitat programs, primarily NRCS (Natural Resources Conservation Service) Farm Bill programs including the EQIP (Environmental Quality Incentive Program) and CSP (Conservation Stewardship Program).</p> <p>Implementing and evaluating wildlife habitat management practices such as timber stand improvements, grassland restoration and management, young forest management, and wildlife food plots.</p> <p>Communicating technical advice to a general audience in written (e.g. management plans, newsletters, etc.) and oral formats (e.g. presentations, workshops, expo's, etc.).</p> <p>Data management, tracking (such as R, MS Access, customer management databases, grant management databases, or other custom applications) and mapping software (GIS or other web-based) programs.</p> <p>How To Apply</p> <p>The steps to apply online are quick and easy!
