<p>THE POSITION</p> <p>The City of Carson, in collaboration with California State University Dominguez Hills, is excited to announce the 2025-2026 Internship and Mentorship program. This program is open to currently enrolled junior, senior, or graduate students attending a local university.</p> <p>About the program:</p> <p>The program is designed to bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to City services and programs, while providing students with hands-on public service experience. It also aims to cultivate a talent pipeline for the City's future workforce and help shape the next generation of professionals. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about various departments within the public sector and engage in meaningful project-based assignments that align with their academic and career goals.</p> <p>The City of Carson has ten (10) Administrative Intern for Mentorship Program positions available for the 2025-2026 cohort within the following potential areas of exploration:</p> <ul> <li> <p>City Manager's Office</p> </li><li> <p>Innovation & Sustainability</p> </li><li> <p>IT & Security</p> </li><li> <p>Public Safety & Emergency Management</p> </li><li> <p>Community & Economic Development</p> </li><li> <p>Human Services</p> </li><li> <p>Community Services</p> </li></ul> <p>Required Documents to be attached with your application:</p> <p>Copy of your college transcript indicating that you are currently enrolled at California State University, Dominguez Hills campus as a junior, senior or graduate student. Your transcript must reflect a grade point average (GPA) of 2.8 or higher*</p> <p>Vacancy Information</p> <p>These are part-time/temporary, at-will positions (FLSA: Non-Exempt) that are limited to a maximum of 500 hours per fiscal year. Work hours and the weekly schedule will be arranged around your school commitments; however, participants will be limited to a maximum of 20 hours per week</p> <p>Under the direction of an assigned supervisor or manager, interns will perform professional administrative duties in support of divisional or departmental operations, which may include:</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES</p> <p>(These functions are representative and may not be present in all positions in the class. Management reserves the right to add, modify, change or rescind related duties and work assignments.)</p> <ol> <li> <p>Performs research, compiles data and prepares reports related to administrative and operational matters.</p> </li><li> <p>Conducts surveys and studies and makes recommendations based on findings.</p> </li><li> <p>Assists with file maintenance, data entry and generates reports using a variety of computer software programs.</p> </li><li> <p>Prepares written correspondence.</p> </li><li> <p>Participates in the preparation and revision of brochures and other administrative materials.</p> </li><li> <p>Works with other professional employees assigned to special work projects.</p> </li><li> <p>Provides information to and consults with staff and the public.</p> </li><li> <p>Operates a variety of office machines, including a personal computer.</p> </li><li> <p>Attends meetings or events in the evening or on weekends.</p> </li><li> <p>May drive to different locations to perform work, site inspections/surveys or attend meetings within and outside the City.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs related duties as required.</p> </li></ol> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>A typical way to obtain the requisite qualifications to perform the duties of this class is as follows:</p> <p>Education and Experience:</p> <p>Must be enrolled as a junior, senior or graduate student at a local university, preferably California State University Dominguez Hills (CSU DH), with a GPA of 2.8 or higher.</p> <p>Knowledge of:</p> <ul> <li>Modern English usage. </li><li>Mathematics, including statistics. </li><li>Research and analytical methods. </li><li>Personal computers and related software applications (such as Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams). </li><li>Methods of report presentation. </li></ul> <p>Skill and Ability to:</p> <ul> <li>Compile, review and evaluate data. </li><li>Communicate effectively orally and in writing. </li><li>Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. </li><li>Learn City organization, operations, policies and objectives. </li><li>Establish and maintain effective working relationships. </li><li>Deal tactfully with the public. </li></ul> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS</p> <p>Employee accommodations for physical or mental disabilities will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
