FRCC will conduct a criminal background check on selected candidate. You may need to check your spam folder.</p> <p>FRCC is seeking motivated and dedicated students to serve as Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders to support student success. SI Leaders facilitate student learning and help students better understand concepts or applications of course content through collaborative learning techniques and modeling course-specific study strategies. Each SI Leader is assigned a course they have already been successful in that historically poses a challenge to students. The SI Leader attends each class session and, provides regularly scheduled small group sessions covering the course content using active learning principles. The SI Leaders maintains ongoing contact with course instructors and the Academic Success Center.</p> <p>FRCC is committed to diversity and inclusion and is intentional about creating a learning and working environment that recognizes the value of individual and group differences. FRCC does not discriminate based on race, ethnicity, age, color, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, religion, or national origin in employment or in our educational programs and activities.</p> <p>Primary Duties</p> <ul> <li>Attend all class meetings (either online or in-person) of the selected course, take accurate notes, understand all the homework/reading assignments and projects, and assist instructor with in-class activities. SI Leaders do not grade. </li><li>Organize and plan regularly scheduled SI sessions that include group activities, study skills development, and active review of course content. </li><li>Create activities and other artifacts to help students improve their understanding of course content. </li><li>Facilitate two to three 60-minute group study sessions per week throughout the semester. </li><li>Provide additional SI sessions as necessary (e.g. prior to quizzes and exams). </li><li>Make regular announcements about the availability of SI study sessions to students and develop creative ways to encourage participation and market SI to students as directed. </li><li>Meet with the course instructor weekly to communicate about course material and SI sessions. </li><li>Report immediately to the coordinator when critical issue(s) arises. </li><li>Attend and participate in SI Leader team meetings and training as scheduled. </li><li>Collect and report attendance data and submit bi-weekly paperwork to the Academic Success Center. </li></ul> <p>Required Competencies</p> <p>TIME COMMITMENT AND REQUIRED TRAINING DATES</p> <ul> <li>Attend SI Leader training prior to the start of the semester and complete online training components as directed. </li><li>Pre-semester training will be 1-3 days the week before school starts. </li><li>Work between 8-10 hours per week per course supported to attend class, plan and facilitate SI sessions, attend team meetings and training, and meet with the course instructor. </li><li>Complete additional required training and professional development sponsored through FRCC. </li></ul> <p>EXPECTATIONS</p> <ul> <li>Follow all procedures and policies set by the Academic Success Center. </li><li>Act in a professional manner, and be approachable, sensitive to, and respectful of the student's needs. </li><li>Be prepared and be on time for each SI session. </li><li>Be familiar with campus resources available to students. </li><li>Keep all information on students you work with confidential. </li><li>Support and care about student success. </li><li>Support the values of the College: diversity, teaching excellence, student success, innovation and creativity, and service to the College. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Must be an FRCC student taking at least 6 credits for the current semester </li><li>Earned grade of B or higher in the selected course. </li><li>3.0 or higher overall GPA with the college. </li><li>Applicants do not have to qualify for work-study funds from Financial Aid. </li><li>Effective communication and interpersonal skills. </li><li>Prior enrollment in the selected course highly desirable. </li><li>Faculty recommendation. </li><li>Capacity to work with students with diverse backgrounds. </li><li>Commitment to work a flexible time schedule. </li><li>Genuine interest in assisting students to succeed academically. </li></ul> <p>Notice to Prospective Employees: Front Range Community College is required by the Clery Act of 1990 to notify prospective employees, current employees, students and applicants where to access our Campus Security Report.
