She/he is responsible for the quality of nursing practice and patient care.</p> <p>Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of Nursing Department Philosophy and Objectives, and policies, procedures and protocols.Participates in the development of standards of care and standards of professional practice for the Operating Room.Provides clinical direction to staff and evaluates the level of care provided by nursing staff.Demonstrates expertise in the utilization of the nursing process and directs staff in its application. Delegate's authority and accountability to Nursing staff for appropriate clinical nursing practice and patient care decisions that are consistent with professional standards, rules and regulations of governmental authorities and policies of the institution.</p> <p>Hires, fires, discipline and perform performance appraisal for all direct reports. Plans and participates in the clinical and leadership development of staff on the unit(s) and evaluates effectiveness of programs and activities.Plans and implements unit based quality, performance improvement activities and shares results at the department level.</p> <p>Adheres to safety and legal requirements established by the hospital and department with emphasis on those pertinent to the unit(s).Participates in planning the budget and table of organization for her/his unit(s) and monitors decision making unit(s) budget. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility in decision making.Develops and maintains effective communication mechanism on the unit(s) with staff, physicians, patients and families and between the unit and other departments to facilitate the delivery of care and enhance patient satisfaction.Serves on hospital and departmental committees on a voluntary and appointed basis.Follows St. John's Riverside Hospital attendance policy.</p> <p>Performs other related assigned duties.Performs unrelated duties in times of emergency.</p> <p>Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours.</p> <p>Must be able to lift, push, pull and move a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.</p> <p>Possible exposure to patient body substances, with potential/actual infectious diseases. Possible exposure to potentially hazardous materials/conditions.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Registered Professional Nurse currently licensed in New York State.</p> <p>Demonstrates competence as a nursing practitioner. (Minimum 3 - 5 years clinical experience).Minimum of three (3) years leadership experience in the Operating Room.</p> <p>Baccalaureate degree required. Masters degree preferred.</p>
