<p>Job Title: Medical Assistant</p> <p>Department: Patient Services - Clinical Services</p> <p>Supervisor: Health Center Manager</p> <p>Location: Hyattsville, MD.</p> <p>Classification: Non-Exempt/Hourly</p> <p>Synopsis: To collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff to provide comprehensive, high-quality medical care to La Clinica del Pueblo's patients. The Patient Care Coordinator will work with the Chief Medical Officer, Providers, Medical and Patient Services Department, Care Coordinators, and other members of the organization to perform Medical Assistant responsibilities to ensure patient adherence to recommended health maintenance and treatment guidelines. Quality of care and patient satisfaction are the primary goals.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Required Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) </li><li>Bilingual, Spanish English </li><li>Minimum (1) one year experience working in a clinical environment </li></ul> <p>Preferred Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>Experience working with HIV-positive patients </li><li>Experience working in a Latino community or underserved populations </li></ul> <p>Required Skills/Abilities/Certifications/Licenses</p> <ul> <li>Certified Medical Assistant </li><li>CPR or BLS certification </li></ul> <p>Preferred Skills/Abilities/Certifications/Licenses</p> <ul> <li>Pediatric and adult phlebotomy </li><li>Registered Medical Assistant - required within 90 days of employment. </li></ul> <p>Duties and Responsibilities</p> <p>Administrative</p> <ul> <li>Review charts before clinic sessions to flag pending health maintenance and treatment issues. Follow up on missing referral documentation and/or consults, laboratory work, and diagnostic imaging. </li><li>Arrange and ensure follow-up internal and external referral appointments and patient specialty care. </li><li>Communicate to supervisor inventory needs - medical and office supplies </li><li>Monitor patient panel for preventive measures, urgency, and other pending follow-up. </li><li>Work collaboratively with the teams on all administrative duties to ensure task completion and continuity of care. </li><li>Actively checks voicemails and responds to calls assigned to the team daily. </li><li>Provide patient education around treatment adherence, STD and HIV prevention, family planning, healthy habits, and other issues as appropriate. </li><li>Support clinical functions with any chart reviews necessary for reports. </li><li>Adhere to the PCC - Floater Role protocol when assigned to a task </li><li>Document all follow-up activities and interactions in the patient's medical record. </li><li>Participate regularly in one-on-one meetings with supervisors, team huddles, triads, case reviews, and staff meetings. </li><li>Documents member, provider, and customer compliments, concerns, or feedback on areas of improvement. Resolves when able or escalates to manager, supervisor, or designee. </li><li>Supports peers, clinical staff, and providers. </li><li>Creates a professional, collaborative, and positive work environment. </li><li>Adhere to all La Clinica del Pueblo's policies and procedures. </li><li>Performs all other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Medical</p> <ul> <li>Coordinate clinic sessions and support managing the clinic flow. </li><li>Assists providers during procedures, obtain the patient's informed consent, and provide before and aftercare instructions </li><li>Administer vaccines and non-intravenous injections and perform venipunctures as a licensed provider directs. </li><li>Operate medical equipment in the office. </li><li>Administer medication as directed by a licensed clinician. </li><li>Collects blood samples from all patient/member population members using age-appropriate venipuncture or capillary puncture and following LCDP policies. </li><li>Perform on-site laboratory services and patient procedures (including simple dressing changes, urine dipsticks, finger/heel sticks, A1C, EKGs, adult/pediatric immunizations, injections, and venipuncture) ordered by a physician. </li><li>Instruct patients on collecting and packaging other specimens, such as urine, stool samples, and timed collections. </li><li>Disposes of biological waste, needles, and related hazardous materials according to laboratory safety and infection control practices and federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Examines and keeps the integrity of sterile packages. </li><li>Follows defined laboratory procedures and supports awareness of changes to procedures. </li><li>Maintain a clean, adequately stocked, and safe work environment. </li><li>Decontaminates, cleans, packages, sterilizes, stores, and distributes medical/surgical equipment and supplies following CDC, OSHA, and CLIA guidelines. </li><li>Supports orientation and practical training of new hires. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>Supervisory Responsibilities: None</p> <p>Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of screentime, sitting at a desk, and standing.</p>
