The Marketing and Communications Specialist is an energetic, hands-on role ideal for an entry-level professional eager to apply their marketing and communication skills in a dynamic university setting. This position is integral to driving the university's brand presence and engagement by creating compelling content, managing communications, coordinating events, and supporting overall marketing efforts. The ideal candidate is a proactive, creative self-starter who thrives on continuous improvement and collaboration.</p> <p>Essential Responsibilities:</p> <ol> <li>Media Relations & Publicity </li></ol> <ul> <li>Draft and distribute press releases, media advisories, and story pitches to local, regional, and national outlets. </li><li>Coordinate interviews, campus visits, and press briefings with media. </li></ul> <ol start="2"> <li>Content Creation & Messaging </li></ol> <ul> <li>Write and edit content for brochures, flyers, newsletters, and internal publications. </li><li>Collaborate with departments to develop compelling stories that highlight university achievements, events, and people. </li><li>Write and distribute a monthly email newsletter to alumni. </li></ul> <ol start="3"> <li>Social Media Strategy & Engagement </li></ol> <ul> <li>Plan and execute content calendars for social media platforms in coordination with other departments. </li><li>Monitor engagement and respond to comments/messages to maintain an active and responsive presence. </li><li>Analyze social media performance data to refine content strategies and grow audience engagement. </li></ul> <ol start="4"> <li>Event Marketing & Promotion </li></ol> <ul> <li>Support promotional strategies for campus events, including print materials, signage, and media outreach. </li><li>Coordinate Homecoming and 3-4 alumni events each year. </li><li>Support photography and videography needs for marketing purposes during campus events. </li></ul> <ol start="5"> <li>Brand Stewardship & Visual Communication </li></ol> <ul> <li>Ensure consistent use of university branding, logos, and visual identity across all print and promotional materials. </li><li>Collaborate with designers and print vendors to produce high-quality marketing collateral. </li><li>Review and approve departmental print materials to align with institutional messaging and branding guidelines. </li></ul> <ol start="6"> <li>Strategic Planning & Collaboration </li></ol> <ul> <li>Contribute to the development of marketing plans and calendars for academic programs, enrollment initiatives, and special campaigns. </li><li>Coordinate marketing activities with third party vendors and departments. </li><li>Partner with admissions, alumni relations, advancement, and academic departments to align marketing efforts with university priorities. </li><li>Track performance of communication efforts and adjust tactics based on feedback, data, and institutional goals. </li></ul> <p>Education & Experience Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field. </li><li>1-3 years of relevant experience </li></ul> <p>Skills/Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to craft clear, engaging, and professional content. </li><li>Ability to handle media inquiries and assist in crisis communications with professionalism and composure. </li><li>Experience or familiarity with digital marketing tools preferred. </li><li>Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects and events simultaneously. </li><li>Creative mindset with a proactive "get it done" attitude and willingness to learn and adapt. </li><li>Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. </li></ul> <p>Why you should apply:</p> <p>West Liberty University offers generous benefits, including approximately 2 days of annual leave (vacation) per month and 12-13 paid holidays.
