<p>The Laboratory Manager oversees the operation of bench-scale and quality control (QC) laboratories at the Biomanufacturing Education and Skills Training (BEST) Center of Eastern NC. This role ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality lab operations that support education and workforce development for life sciences companies in Eastern North Carolina.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Lead the start-up and operation of bench-scale and QC laboratories within the BEST Center </li><li>Manage staff responsible for operating laboratory equipment </li><li>Write job descriptions; recruit and hire laboratory technicians </li><li>Deliver lectures and/or lead lab activities </li><li>Develop progress reports upon request </li><li>Perform administrative functions as needed </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Plan, organize, and support education and training delivery while meeting/exceeding goals for safety, quality, schedule, and cost </li><li>Proficient with basic laboratory instruments and/or manufacturing equipment </li><li>Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with community college students and industry trainees </li><li>Effective written and verbal communication skills </li><li>Ability to work independently and as a team member </li><li>Use computer and other digital technologies to maximize efficiency </li><li>Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) </li><li>Knowledge of laboratory safety and biosafety practices </li></ul> <p>College-wide Expectations</p> <p>WCC places a high value on creating an engaged, collaborative campus environment; therefore, employees are required to complete their work hours in person on WCC's campus. By working on campus and in person, employees have greater opportunities to engage with students and co-workers, attend on-site meetings and presentations, recruit students, and support local business and industry partners.</p> <ul> <li>Communicates clearly and frequently in writing and speaking to ensure consistency of purpose and vision </li><li>Works collaboratively with all members of the college community </li><li>Understands and supports the College's mission, vision, and values </li><li>Remains current on emerging higher education and division-relevant issues </li><li>Fosters a work environment characterized by transparency, trust, and professionalism </li><li>Retains a focus on the student experience, ensuring instructional rigor and development of professional skills </li></ul> <p>Education and Experience</p> <p>Required</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in a Life Science or Engineering field from a regionally accredited institution. </li><li>Minimum of three (3) years of work experience in an academic or manufacturing laboratory. </li></ul> <p>Preferred</p> <ul> <li>Master's or Doctorate in a Life Science or Engineering field. </li><li>Experience in a GMP-regulated laboratory. </li><li>Experience in analytical chemistry and/or microbiology. </li><li>Prior management experience. </li><li>Teaching experience at a community college or university. </li></ul> <p>Unofficial transcripts must be included with your online application before submission or sent directly to Human Resources immediately after applying.
