UWM, a doctoral/research intensive university, is Wisconsin's premier public urban university and offers a comprehensive liberal arts and professional education at the undergraduate and graduate level to over 23,000 students.</p> <p>UWM takes pride in being a student-centered institution that is deeply committed to diversity in its student body, faculty and staff, and programs. Our tree-lined, 104-acre campus is located on Milwaukee's upper east side, one of the city's most attractive residential areas and home to many faculty, staff, and students.</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>Police Officers serve as law enforcement officers at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. These positions function with full arrest powers under the general supervision of a Police Sergeant. Many investigations and duty assignments are conducted independently. Responsibilities are generally complex and demanding and require the skills, abilities and training (provided).</p> <p>Police Officers will be expected to become thoroughly familiar with the police department policies, procedures, rules, regulations and memoranda, as well as the University Staff Code of Conduct. The principal duties of a University Police Officer are to provide for the personal safety of all persons on campus, ensure a peaceful environment in which the academic pursuits of the University can be realized, prevent and detect criminal activity and to apprehend those involved in such activity. Many additional services are also provided to students, faculty, staff, and community.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>An applicant for employment as a law enforcement or tribal law enforcement officer shall possess either a 2-year associate degree from a Wisconsin technical college system district or its accredited equivalent from another state or a minimum of 60 fully accredited college level credits. An applicant who has not met this standard at the time of employment shall meet this standard as a requirement of recertification by the board at the end of his or her fifth year of employment as a law enforcement officer; </li></ul> <p>AND</p> <ul> <li>Possess a valid Wisconsin Driver license or other such valid operator's permit recognized by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation as authorizing operation of a motor vehicle in Wisconsin; </li></ul> <p>AND</p> <ul> <li>Have no unpardoned convictions for a felony, or any offense that could be punished as a felony in Wisconsin; </li></ul> <p>AND</p> <ul> <li>Have no convictions of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence as defined in 18 USC 921(a)(33), convictions of domestic abuse as defined in § 968.075(1)(a), Wis. Stats., or convictions of a crime subject to the imposition of the domestic abuse surcharge under § 973.055(4), Wis. Stats.; · Per § 66.0501(2); </li></ul> <p>AND</p> <ul> <li>Be of good character; and Be free from any physical, emotional, or mental condition that might adversely affect the performance of the duties of a law enforcement officer. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Have completed (within 3 years) or be currently enrolled and will complete, a Wisconsin Department of Justice "Law Enforcement Recruit" training course and be eligible for certification upon employment by the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board (LESB) as a Law Enforcement Officer; </li><li>Be a certified Law Enforcement Officer in another state and be eligible for certification by Wisconsin LESB; </li><li>Hold or have held military veteran status in a Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) as a law enforcement officer (Military Police/Security Forces/Master of Arms), full-time for a minimum of one (1) year beyond basic training, fully empowered and paid for all hours worked, and left law enforcement officer employment voluntarily with a good record and been out of that employment for less than three (3) years. </li><li>Have a current appointment within the Universities of Wisconsin in any employment classification. </li></ul> <p>Target Salary Range See pay scale in Benefits and Total Rewards Section below Benefits and Total Rewards</p> <p>Rates of Pay:</p> <p>ForLateral Transferapplicants who are selected for employment from another law enforcement agency as a full-time sworn officer, we will match completed continuous, full-time years of service and apply to the pay grid below as the starting wage up to year 5.</p> <p>Base rates listed below do not include overtime pay.</p> <p>There are many opportunities for overtime throughout the year, paid at time and a half.</p> <p>PAY GRID</p> <p>Academy | $27.55 (equivalent to $57,304 per year)</p> <p>Year 1|$34.65 (equivalent to $72,072 per year)</p> <p>Year 2|$36.81 (equivalent to $76,564 per year)</p> <p>Year 3|$38.98 (equivalent to $81,078 per year)</p> <p>Year 4|$41.15 (equivalent to $85,592 per year)</p> <p>Year 5 (POII)|$43.32 (equivalent to $90,105 per year)</p> <p>Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS):Prior WRS creditable years of service will transfer continuously to UWM.</p> <p>Leave Benefits:</p> <ul> <li>Vacation: 104 hours per year starting, increases based on years of service </li><li>Sick leave (with no expiration): 130 hours per year </li><li>Personal holiday: 36 hours per year </li><li>Paid legal holidays: 9 days per year </li><li>Paid Parental Leave: 6 weeks within one year of birth or adoption of a child. </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions:</p> <ul> <li>12-hour shift schedule.
