<p>Job Description:</p> <p>General Duties: To develop appropriate classroom activities in an environment that students can learn effectively.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Modify and accommodate all work/tasks to the individual learners in the program through differentiated instruction. </li><li>Working in both the inclusion and life skills setting with students </li><li>Implement Interest inventories </li><li>Help build opportunities for inclusion-based learning when appropriate (LRE). </li><li>Guide students in developing positive relationships with peers and adults. </li><li>Create opportunities for appropriate recreation and leisure activities. </li><li>Provide escort and assistance to students as necessary (especially in the community) </li><li>Attend all necessary PPT meetings for students on current caseload, and perspective students. </li><li>Collaborate with general education teachers as well as related service providers. </li><li>Collect and display suitable material for educational displays. </li><li>Develop materials and group lessons. </li><li>Develop, collect baseline data, analyze to help remediate students' gaps in learning. </li><li>Lifting during transfers and repositioning if needed. </li><li>Assist with toileting, hygiene, and feeding if needed. </li><li>Required to attend upcoming Safety Care training for de-escalation techniques. </li><li>Required to participate in aquatics program (be in the pool with students). </li><li>Knowledge of classroom strategies to help with de-escalation. </li><li>Able to assist the student(s) when met with a challenge by physical needs when necessary, such as outbursts, running, etc. </li><li>Provide students with opportunities in the community/Transitional work trials </li><li>Develop sensory diet techniques and strategies. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Pupil Services or his/her designee. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Meet Connecticut teaching requirements through CSDE for Special Education:</p> </li><li> <p></p> </li><li>A Bachelor's Degree or beyond in any area of Special Education, OR <p></p> </li><li> <p>Two years of study at an institution of higher education (60 college credits), OR</p> </li><li> <p>Meet the standard of performance set by the State of Connecticut.</p> </li><li> <p>Special Education Severe Intellectual Disabilities certification preferred or Comprehensive Special Education, Grades K-12 (165) certification, preferred.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrated aptitude for working with a special needs population.</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of FBA, BIP and Manifestations.</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of the Unique Learning Curriculum and CCCS.</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of MTSS/PBIS.</p> </li><li> <p>Experience with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder).</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of PEC's (Picture Exchange Communication).</p> </li><li> <p>Documented experience and/or training with students who have Autism, medically fragile, multi-handicapped students, intellectual impairments and behaviors that interfere with learning.</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of DDS as well as PCP's (MAPS, PATH, Essential Lifestyle Planning and Personal Futures Planning).</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of Transition Services, Self-Determination & Self-Advocacy.</p> </li><li> <p>Must possess good communication skills and patience.</p> </li><li> <p>Completion of a successful interview.</p> </li></ul>
