Smith Building</p> <p>City Albany</p> <p>StateNY</p> <p>Zip Code12210</p> <p>Duties Description Under the general direction of a Supervisor of Public Safety Programs or other higher level management staff, the Public Safety Program Specialist 3, SG-25, serves as program manager overseeing the Law Enforcement Strategic Assistance Unit (LESAU) providing hands-on strategic guidance to New York State law enforcement agencies focusing on evidence-based policing practices, community trust building, and reform and reinvention collaboratives. This position will be responsible for the overall leadership of the Field Operations Section of the unit, including managing resources and personnel that will provide assistance to law enforcement jurisdictions to guide implementation of identified strategies effectively, and working with them to innovate in pursuit of effective violence reduction and public safety outcomes.</p> <p>Specific duties for this position include but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Manage the day-to-day operations of the Field Operations Section of the Law Enforcement Strategic Assistance Unit. </li><li>Directly supervise staff assigned to violence reduction initiatives including the Gun Involved Violence Elimination Initiative (GIVE) and Statewide Targeted Reduction in Intimate Partner Violence (STRIVE). </li><li>Provides regular oversight of staff communications and monitors compliance with reporting requirements, adherence to evidence-based practices, and ensures proper grant funding utilization. </li><li>Serve as a liaison between DCJS and local governments regarding GIVE and STRIVE. </li><li>Evaluate applications, reallocation requests, and quarterly reports. </li><li>Promote all Governor's criminal justice initiatives, along with the services of DCJS, to local law enforcement and prosecutorial agencies. </li><li>Monitor local crime trends and conducting inquiries on behalf of the Governor's Office and DCJS regarding assigned jurisdictions. </li><li>Seek out innovative and creative ideas through research, networking, and continuing education. </li><li>Identify program challenges and propose solutions. </li><li>Brief executive staff regarding grant activities. </li><li>Develop and update policies, procedures, and practices. </li><li>Prepare and monitor section budget and spending plan. </li><li>Coordinate with other internal and external partners regarding the LESAU training and technical assistance plan development, implementation, and assessment. </li><li>Perform the full range of supervisory responsibilities </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications Non-Competitive: One year of service as Public Safety Program Specialist 2 or eight years of experience* as a law enforcement officer or law enforcement trainer in a local, state, or federal police agency, including one year of supervisory experience.</p> <ul> <li>All qualifying experience must have been gained after basic/recruit training. Time served for basic/recruit training does not count towards the qualifying experience. An associates degree or 60 credit hours may substitute for two years of general experience; a bachelor's degree may substitute for four years of general experience. </li></ul> <p>Additional Comments Up to 10% travel will be required.
