<p>Job Description:</p> <p>2025 - 2026 School Year</p> <p>Bridgeport Public Schools</p> <p>Human Resources Department</p> <p>45 Lyon Terrace, Room 324</p> <p>Bridgeport, CT 06604</p> <p>ASSISTANT CHIEF OF SPECIAL EDUCATION</p> <p>BOE CENTRAL OFFICE</p> <p>SALARY RANGE: $140,000.00 - $150,000.00</p> <p>UNAFFILIATED - 12 MONTHS</p> <p>Position Overview</p> <p>The Assistant Chief of Special Education is responsible for ensuring compliance and accountability with federal and state regulations. The Assistant Chief of Special Education will be responsible for addressing the special education department's needs related to the compliance of individual education plans development and implementation for students enrolled in-district, Charter Schools, and Out-of-District Placements; Chronic Absenteeism at BLC and The Transition Academy. The Assistant Chief of Special Education will oversee Compensatory Services. This role will be responsible for overseeing</p> <p>The Assistant Chief of Special Education has a pivotal role within our schools and district. This position is responsible for ensuring that our policies and procedures related to special education programs, services, and supervision assigned personnel are aligned to IDEA, Section 504, ADA, state and local regulations. The primary purpose of this position will be to ensure the oversight tied to compliance within Bridgeport Learning Center and Charter Schools, Chronic Absenteeism, state complaints findings, mediations, resolution meetings, audits, and PPT meetings are implemented. The Assistant Chief of Special Education will advocate for students with disabilities, ensuring that their unique needs are met through effective program implementation and oversight.</p> <p>The Assistant Chief of Special Education will report directly to the Chief of Special Education.</p> <p>Special Knowledge /Skills</p> <ul> <li>092 Certification (CT) </li><li>165 Certification (CT) </li><li>Five years of teaching experience </li><li>Three years of supervision in the field of special education </li><li>Working knowledge of Connecticut State Department of Education Bureau of Special Education regulations </li><li>Experience developing and delivering professional learning to teachers, related service providers, and administrators </li><li>Experience interpreting and providing guidance aligned with Connecticut Special Education policy </li><li>Demonstrated ability to provide sound guidance on topics related to special education legal matters </li><li>Thorough knowledge of IDEA law and regulations, Parental Rights and Procedural Safeguards, and regulations regarding the identification and placement of students in public school special education programs, charter, private, and nonpublic schools. </li></ul> <p>Major Responsibilities and Duties</p> <ul> <li>Assists Chief of Special Education in monitoring complaints, mediations, and Due Process Hearings. </li><li>Supervise campuses to track monthly compensatory services owed and provided </li><li>Assist to analyze legal decisions and share potential impact on BPS procedures and practices. </li><li>Oversee IEP development and implementation to ensure Initial evaluations and Initial and Annual PPT Meetings are conducted and held within the state mandated timeline within the district and at Charter Schools. </li><li>Conduct program evaluations and audits to ensure district special education programs and programs at charter schools are operating effectively. </li><li>Identify areas of non-compliance and develop action plans for improvement. </li><li>Assist in auditing out of district placements and identifying students who are eligible to transition back to the district. </li><li>Assist in auditing chronic absenteeism at BLC and The Transition Academy to ensure students have a plan to return to, attend, and engage in school. </li><li>Assist in the design and development of district special education data trackers and facilitate professional learning for campus and district staff in the effective use of data to improve special education compliance and accountability </li><li>Supervise all special education programs and services within the Charter Schools portfolio. </li><li>Interpret and implement all state and federal special education requirements and mandates to ensure compliance with Charter Schools, BLC, and The Transition Academy </li><li>Responsible for ensuring delivery of all of the services prescribed in the individual education plans of students enrolled at a Charter School within the Bridgeport Public Schools attendance zone area. </li></ul>
