We are seeking hardworking and enthusiastic individuals to help maintain our streets and public spaces during the busy summer season!</p> <p>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:</p> <p>The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.</p> <ul> <li>Performs manual work functions associated with maintenance and repair of city roads and easements, which may include maintaining and removing trees, cutting tree limbs or bushes, mowing easements, planting grass, repairing street or signal lights, painting street markings, installing or replacing road signs, installing or repairing mailboxes, clearing ditches, sweeping streets, spreading road materials, picking up trash or debris, removing dead animals from roads, placing safety barricades and cones and flagging traffic. </li><li>Responds to weather events that obstruct or damage streets, right-of-ways and other City property; plows snow, removes branches downed by high winds, clear storm drains and lays sand bags to prevent flooding. </li><li>Performs manual work functions associated with grounds maintenance of Civic Square complex or other City property such as planting and mowing grass, edging and trimming landscaped areas, planting flowers, trees and shrubs, pruning or removing trees and shrubs, weeding flower beds, mixing chemicals, spreading or spraying fertilizer, applying pesticides and herbicides, maintaining lake appearance, cleaning and maintaining fountain, applying chemicals to fountain, repairing fountain lighting and pumps, troubleshooting electrical and plumbing problems, repairing fountain structure, troubleshooting irrigation system, maintaining parking lots and sidewalks and disposing of litter and trash from grounds. </li><li>Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment and tools inoperable condition, including inspecting equipment, checking and replacing fluids, greasing equipment and cleaning equipment and work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment. </li><li>Performs miscellaneous maintenance functions such as painting buildings and equipment. </li><li>Utilizes safety equipment and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals. </li><li>Transports, loads and unloads various equipment and materials used in projects. </li><li>Assists with special events such as Carmelfest, International Arts Festival and Farmers' Market. </li><li>Performs other related duties as required. </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to review and record data. </li><li>Ability to operate within established guidelines. </li><li>Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions. </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor and co-workers. </li><li>Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. </li><li>Ability to exert heavy to extremely heavy physical effort on a regular, and at times sustained, </li><li>basis, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, </li><li>crouching and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of </li><li>objects and materials weighing up to 100 pounds; may occasionally involve manipulation of </li><li>objects and materials weighing up to 400 pounds. </li><li>Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, humidity, rain, standing water, fumes, severe weather, bright sunlight, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, animal/insect bites, toxic agents, disease or pathogenic substances. </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or GED. </li><li>Valid Indiana Driver's License </li></ul>
