<p>POSITION TITLE: 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade ELA (EL Instructional Specialist)</p> <p>RECRUITED BY: Director of Bilingual Services</p> <p>IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Building Principal/Director of Bilingual Services</p> <p>POSITION SUMMARY:</p> <p>Candidate must have the ability to understand and accept the Mission of the South Bend Community</p> <p>School Corporation in reference to the education of English Learners (ELs). Candidate must have basic</p> <p>knowledge of second language acquisition and its terminology. Candidate must have excellent written</p> <p>and oral communication skills in English.</p> <p>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>? Two (2) years of effective experience working with Limited English Proficient (LEP) students preferred</p> <p>? Knowledge of WIDA ELD Standards for grades 6-</p> <p>? An explicit understanding of effective ELD instructional practices and Second Language Acquisition</p> <p>research</p> <p>? Bachelor's degree in English or related field</p> <p>? Certified teachers or candidates working in a Transition to Teaching program</p> <p>? ENL License required or must be willing to working on an ENL License</p> <p>? Will be assigned ENL ELA & EL Lab classes for grades 6-8 or will</p> <p>? Advanced knowledge of written and spoken English</p> <p>? Participates in required professional development, during the school year and summer</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:</p> <p>? Excellent communication skills between coworkers and third parties</p> <p>? Ability to follow procedures</p> <p>? Excellent organization skills</p> <p>? Ability to use initiative and work without close supervision</p> <p>? Ability to analyze and use data to support instruction in English language development (ELD)</p> <p>? Sensitivity to cultural differences</p> <p>? Must be able to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Docs</p> <p>? Have excellent English (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) skills</p> <p>PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>? Provides direct ELD support 100% of the school day to Limited English Proficient (LEP) students</p> <p>(levels 1- 4.9) using a sheltered immersion model of instruction</p> <p>? Assists and supports instructional staff in the implementation of ELD instruction at the building level</p> <p>by sharing proven instructional strategies and materials</p> <p>? Works with the Bilingual Education Specialist and the Bilingual English Literacy Specialist to manage,</p> <p>analyze and review each EL student's assessment data to ensure the highest level of English</p> <p>language development in listening, speaking, reading and writing</p> <p>? Works with the Bilingual Services team to identify materials and supplies to support instruction,</p> <p>professional development, and parent involvement</p> <p>? Works directly with identified LEP students (Levels 1.0-4.9) and provides ELD support 100% of the</p> <p>teaching day</p> <p>? Demonstrates and models exemplary ELD practices</p> <p>? Provides leadership for ELD across the school community</p> <p>? Helps strengthen family and school ties by engaging families in English language development</p> <p>opportunities</p> <p>?
