<p>FLSA: Non-Exempt/Overtime Eligible</p> <p>Hours Per Week: 20/Part-time</p> <p>Met Council is Americas largest Jewish charity dedicated to serving the needy. We fight poverty through comprehensive social services and by treating each client with compassion, integrity, and respect. Our programs are staffed by experts who help over 325,000 clients each year and advocate on behalf of all needy New Yorkers. Our services include 100% affordable housing at 21 locations, family violence services, Holocaust survivor assistance, geriatric social work, crisis intervention and the largest free kosher food distribution program in the world. Our network of 101 food pantries, affordable housing sites, and affiliated JCCs provide services directly in neighborhoods across New York City.</p> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>The role of the Service Coordinator is to link residents of the building to supportive services or medical services provided within the general community.</p> <p>Please note: This is an on-site position in Queens, NY 11367.</p> <p>Principal Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Establish links with agencies and service providers in the community. </li><li>Refer and link residents to service providers in the community such as case management, personal assistance, transportation, meals-on-wheels, counseling, primary healthcare, and legal advocacy. </li><li>Provide education to residents on available services, application procedures, and rights. </li><li>Assist the residents in developing support networks. </li><li>Provide and/or coordinate training for residents on obligations of tenancy. </li><li>Coordinate on-site presentations and events to provide education about and links to available services in the community. </li><li>Additional responsibilities as required. </li></ul> <p>Competencies:</p> <ul> <li>Working knowledge of supportive services and other resources for senior citizens in the vicinity of the building(s). </li><li>Ability to advocate, organize, problem solve, and provide results for seniors served. </li><li>Knowledge of Microsoft Office sufficient to generate documents, create and use spreadsheets, and manage e-mail and appointments. </li><li>Knowledge of basic office practices, procedures, and equipment. </li><li>Ability to prepare clear, concise reports and make appropriate recommendations within scope of responsibility. </li><li>Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, superiors, residents, community service agencies, and the public. </li><li>Ability to manage multiple priorities and multiple demands to accomplish tasks in accordance with established requirements. </li><li>Skilled in analyzing situations in order to identify problems and offer possible solutions. </li><li>Skilled in communicating with all types of people in a wide variety of situations. </li></ul> <p>Skill and Education:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor of Social Work, Gerontology, Psychology or Counseling (Preferred). </li><li>2 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree is also acceptable. </li><li>Minimum of 2 years experience in social service work with senior citizens. </li><li>Bilingual English/Chinese (required); Korean, Spanish, or Russian (Preferred). </li></ul> <p>Compensation: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour</p> <p>Benefits: Pre-tax commuter benefits; 403(b); plus pro-rated vacation, sick leave and holidays.</p>
