<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Position: Plumbing / Gas Inspector</p> <p>Location: Public Property</p> <p>Date Opened: March 18, 2025</p> <p>Date Closed: Until Filled</p> <p>Position Type: Full Time / Benefited / Union</p> <p>Salary: $73,520 - $90,420 (Salary Step)</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <p>Duties include but are not limited to the following:</p> <p>Performs inspection and administrative work in connection with the enforcement and interpretation of applicable codes relating to plumbing and gas systems;</p> <p>Conducts inspections of plumbing and gas for new construction and renovations in all private and public buildings in the City; Conducts inspections in housing units, multiple occupancy dwellings, industrial and commercial structures.</p> <p>Responds to complaints and takes appropriate measures to correct unsafe or unlawful conditions; Provides information and technical assistance to contractors, homeowners, plumbers, gas fitters, and other interested parties regarding proper design and installation of plumbing and gas work.</p> <p>Performs similar or related duties as required, or as situation dictates.</p> <p>Supervision:</p> <p>Works under the general direction of the Commissioner of Buildings and in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Massachusetts General Laws and local ordinances; reviews all unusual problems or situations with the Commissioner of Buildings prior to taking any required action.</p> <p>Work environment:</p> <p>Some work is performed in office conditions; most work is performed in the field, with exposure to variable weather conditions and the hazards associated with construction sites, wiring, and job-site equipment; may be required to wear protective clothing. Operates standard office equipment. Has frequent contact with the general public, other</p> <p>City employees and officials, contractors, homeowners, and builders. May have access to records of legal proceedings and bid documents. Errors could result in personal injury, injury to others, delay or loss of service, damage to buildings or equipment, monetary loss, or legal repercussions.</p> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <p>Education and Experience: High school diploma with supplemental training in plumbing and gas installations; five years of progressively responsible experience in plumbing and gas installation and construction; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.</p> <p>Additional requirements:</p> <p>Massachusetts Journeyman Plumbers and Gasfitters License; Valid Massachusetts motor vehicle operator's license</p> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:</p> <p>Thorough knowledge of the Massachusetts Plumbing and Gas Code; Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of plumbing and gas systems; Ability to enforce codes fairly and impartially; ability to stay informed of code changes; Ability to plan, organize, and perform inspections; Ability to develop and maintain effective working</p> <p>relationships with contractors, the public, and City departments.</p> <p>Excellent communication skills and public relations skills.</p> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>The City of Brockton provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, age, sexual orientation, national origin, ancestry, disability, military status, genetic information, pregnancy or a pregnancy-related condition, or membership in any other protected class.
