This position is located in District 61/Unit 580 of the Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) and reports directly to the Highway Foreman 1. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties with minimal supervision and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. The incumbent is required to possess the following specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as maintain Class A CDL license. Will need working knowledge of PDAs, light computer work. May require work involving nighttime operations or call outs for emergencies that occur outside of normal work. Lifting a maximum of 50 pounds will be required, due to servicing equipment, removing debris from roadway, and other routine maintenance work being performed. Manual lifting of more than 50 pounds requires assistance from others.</p> <p>Please visit our DOTD Career Center for more information about our agency:</p> <p>http://wwwsp.dotd.la.gov/Inside_LaDOTD/Divisions/Mgmt_Finance/HR/Pages/Career_Center.aspx</p> <p>No experience or training is required.</p> <p>The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here.</p> <p>Job Duties:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Performs maintenance tasks on DOTD right of ways including, but not limited to, loading/ unloading materials at the parish units and/ or jobsite, removing fallen trees, pushing trees/ debris after major storms, removing dead animals from DOTD right of way, cleaning cross drain culverts, cleaning side drain culverts, cleaning subsurface drainage pipe, cleaning all types of box culverts, grading ditches, sweeping highways, and grading shoulders. </p> </li><li> <p>Performs hauling of maintenance materials such as asphalt, cold planed asphalt, dirt, sand, gravel, trash, fallen trees, and removed concrete.</p> </li><li> <p>Operates small, motorized equipment such as chainsaws and pole saws used for cutting fallen trees and low hanging limbs on DOTD right of ways. </p> </li><li> <p>Provides guidance to and oversee work of lower-level operators, acts as a lead worker, and completes daily work reports for crew in foreman's absence. </p> </li><li> <p>May be required to perform other duties as necessary, including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.</p> </li></ul> <p>Position-Specific Details:</p> <p>Appointment Type: This position may be filled as a Probationary Appointment requiring 12-24 months on probation.</p> <p>Career Progression: As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Mobile Equipment Operator 1, Mobile Equipment Operator 2, or Mobile Equipment Operator 1-Heavy depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).</p> <p>Work Schedule: The work schedule for this position is, 10-hour days, 4 days a week, off Monday or Friday.</p> <p>Compensation: See below for starting hourly rate for each level, and the Premium Pay amount for the Mobile Equipment Operator 1 and 2.</p> <ul> <li> <p>MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1 - Valid Louisiana driver's license will be required upon appointment.</p> </li><li> <p>Starting salary for MEO-1 is $16.06/hour with an additional $1.00/hour for all hours worked.</p> </li><li> <p>Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.</p> </li><li> <p>MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 2 - Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will be required upon appointment.</p> </li><li> <p>Starting salary for MEO-2 is $17.18/hour with an additional $1.00 for all hours worked. </p> </li><li> <p>Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.</p> </li><li> <p>MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1/HEAVY - Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will be required upon appointment. </p> </li><li> <p>Starting salary for MEO 1-HEAVY is $21.05/hour. </p> </li></ul> <p>How To Apply:</p> <p>No Civil Service test score is required in order to be considered for this vacancy. </p> <p>To apply for this vacancy, click on the "Apply" link above and complete an electronic application, which can be used for this vacancy as well as future job opportunities.
