<p>Posting closes on 5/21/2025</p> <p>Under general supervision of Staff and Senior Structures Engineers, this position is responsible for determining load capacity ratings on all public bridges, for the design of bridges and structures to provide construction plans meeting state and federal requirements, or for the inspection and testing of steel and concrete products.</p> <p>Examples of Work</p> <p>The following examples are intended only as illustrations of various types of work performed. No attempt is made to be exhaustive. Related, similar, or other logical duties are performed as assigned. The Department may require employees to perform functions beyond those contained in job descriptions. The Department may modify job descriptions based on Department needs. The Arkansas Department of Transportation is an "at will" employer.</p> <ul> <li>Assist in the inspection of fabrication of structural steel and precast concrete products to ensure compliance with standards and specifications which will require visits to the fabrication and precast facilities. </li><li>Assist in the sampling for testing of steel and concrete products used in highway and bridge construction. </li><li>Assist with the resolution of problems arising from fabrication and testing. </li><li>Verify invoices and payments for inspection work by consultants or other highway departments. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Requirements</p> <p>Education and experience: Possession of a current Arkansas license to practice professional engineering or graduation from an EAC of ABET approved engineering curriculum or equivalent as judged by the Arkansas Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Experience with bridge fabrication inspection and testing.</p> <p>Knowledge, skills and abilities: Thorough knowledge of bridge structural analysis, design, and load capacity rating techniques or bridge design experience and general working knowledge of the design and construction specifications and materials for all types of bridges commonly constructed by the Department. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Effective communication skills.</p> <p>Working conditions: Occasional in-state travel.</p> <p>Licenses, registrations and certifications: Engineer Intern certification. Valid driver's license.</p> <p>("EAC of ABET" means Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.)</p>
