<p>Strasburg Rail Road Company</p> <p>Position Description</p> <p>POSITION TITLE: HR Generalist</p> <p>FLSA: Exempt</p> <p>RETIREMENT: Railroad Retirement</p> <p>FT or PT: Full-time - no remote option</p> <p>POSITION REPORTS TO: Vice President of Human Resources</p> <p>POSITION PURPOSE: The HR Generalist plays a key role in supporting the Human Resources function for a historic steam railroad with two distinct lines of business-one governed by Railroad Retirement regulations and the other subject to Pennsylvania employment laws. This position is responsible for executing a wide range of HR duties, including full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, training coordination, compliance, and processing multi-state payroll. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining the highest level of accuracy and confidentiality.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES</p> <ul> <li>Processes bi-weekly multi-state payroll and the filing of required tax forms. </li><li>Manage the recruitment, attend job fairs and onboarding process, including job postings, screening candidates, conducting interviews, and facilitating new hire orientation. </li><li>Administer employee benefits programs and assist employees with inquiries related to benefits enrollment, changes, and claims. </li><li>Meet mandatory deadlines for health insurance, 401k, railroad retirement, etc. </li><li>Handle employee relations matters, including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and performance management. </li><li>Implement and enforce HR policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations such as ADA, FMLA, FLSA, EEO, etc. </li><li>Coordinate training and development initiatives to enhance employee skills and performance. </li><li>Maintain accurate employee records and HR databases. </li><li>Provide HR support to employees and managers daily, addressing inquiries and resolving issues promptly. </li><li>Contribute to HR projects and initiatives, such as employee engagement programs or policy development. </li><li>Support safety and workforce compliance for regulated rail operations and hospitality/event business lines. </li><li>Utilize Excel to analyze data, create pivot tables and general reporting. </li><li>Performs other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>REQUIRED 3+ YEARS EXPERIENCE WITH THE FOLLOWING</p> <ul> <li>HR roles, with a focus on generalist responsibilities </li><li>Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations </li><li>Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Work and PowerPoint </li></ul> <p>ATTRIBUTES</p> <ul> <li>Proactive and self-motivated individual with a strong sense of accountability. </li><li>Meticulous with details and organized, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. </li><li>Capable of working with minimal supervision, demonstrating self-drive and initiative in completing tasks and achieving objectives. </li><li>Demonstrates empathy and sensitivity in delegate situations, effectively navigating interpersonal dynamics to achieve positive outcomes. </li><li>Team player with the ability to collaborate across departments. </li><li>Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think critically. </li><li>Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining the highest level of accuracy and confidentiality. </li></ul> <p>WORK CONDITIONS</p> <ul> <li>Minimum 40 hours per week. Typically, M-F 8:00am-4:30pm onsite. Hours will be adjusted around onboarding, job fairs, special events, etc. </li><li>Working holidays and weekends as required. </li><li>Sitting for long periods of time. </li><li>Mostly indoors but will be out on property from time to time. </li><li>Pre-employment background check required and subject to random/reasonable suspicion drug testing </li><li>Able to lift 25 pounds </li></ul> <p>INTENT AND FUNCTION OF JOB DESCRIPTION</p> <p>Job descriptions assist organizations in ensuring that the hiring process is fairly administered, and that qualified Team Members are selected.
