<p>Description</p> <p>Boulder CountyParks and Open SpaceDepartment is seeking to hire 2 (two) Seasonal Agricultural Technicians.These positions will support maintenance on county-owned agricultural properties, wildfire mitigation, prairie dog control, and vegetation assessment and management.</p> <p>This is an hourly, non-benefitedposition that will work 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm;some earlier days of 6am - 2:30pm may be required. This position will work out of5201 St Vrain Rd., Longmont,Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is non-exempt(eligible for overtime).</p> <p>Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.</p> <p>Hiring Salary Range: $25.00Hourly</p> <p>Tentative Hiring Timeline:</p> <ul> <li>Phone Screening: Week of April 13th </li><li>First Round Interviews: Week of April 20th </li><li>Reference Check: Week of April 20th </li></ul> <p>Boulder County employees may qualify for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF). Visit studentaid.govfor more information.</p> <p>Examples of Duties</p> <ul> <li>Assessment of fence conditions </li><li>Minor fencing repairs </li><li>Mowing/weed whipping vegetation </li><li>Assist in vegetation assessments </li><li>Assist in installation of soil moisture probes </li><li>Assessment of ditch conditions with regards to vegetation, biomass, and fire mitigation </li><li>Implement a variety of techniques for the removal of biomass from work sites </li><li>Help develop relationships with ditch riders/companies/Ag tenants to educate/understand the mutual needs of the community with regards to wildfire mitigation </li><li>Work in collaboration with Boulder County Sheriff's Office crew bosses for some projects involving jail crews </li><li>Removal of prairie dogs from undesirable locations using live trapping methods and euthanization on-site with carbon monoxide machines </li><li>Some prairie dogs will be humanely dispatched for use in predator (black-footed ferret and raptor) recovery programs </li><li>Assessment of prairie dog colonies on properties </li><li>Maintenance of vehicles, trailers, PERC machines, and OHVs, per County Policy guidelines </li><li>May assist in placement of visual barriers and other deterrents to prairie dog movement </li><li>Entry of fencing, vegetation, and ditch conditions into mobile asset management system </li><li>Entry of work completed into mobile asset management system </li><li>Performs related work, as required </li><li>May be reassigned during emergency situations </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <p>PLEASE NOTE: When completing your application describe all relevant education and experience, as applications are assessed based on the required qualifications listed. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of:</p> <ul> <li>No formal education or experience is required </li></ul> <p>DRIVER'S LICENSE:</p> <ul> <li>Applicants must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record </li><li>For more information regarding a clean driving record, please click here. </li></ul> <p>BACKGROUND CHECK:</p> <ul> <li>A job offer is contingent on passing a background investigation </li></ul> <p>SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li>Applicants must be able to work long hours outdoors and able to hike long distances off-trail </li></ul> <p>PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL:</p> <ul> <li>Candidates for this position will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment physical </li></ul> <p>Supplemental Information</p> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>An aptitude and interest in agricultural production, agricultural ditch systems, and wildfire mitigation </li><li>Experience in trapping wildlife </li><li>Rangeland plant identification </li><li>Ability to drive a trailer and/or operate heavy machinery </li><li>Familiarity with GIS systems to input data into our asset management system </li><li>Proficiency with the use of power tools, hand tools, wood chipper, and/or small engines (chainsaw, etc.) </li><li>Previous fieldwork, especially with prairie dogs or other small mammals, computer skills, and knowledge of Open Spaces </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to drive a trailer and/or operate heavy machinery </li><li>Ability to work well with others (multi-person crew) </li><li>Ability to work responsibly alone </li><li>Ability to work well under occasionally stressful and outdoor conditions </li></ul> <p>Boulder County is a workplace dedicated to supporting individuals and families of all types and to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and respectful environment for all employees.
