The Parks and Recreation Department is composed of a Director and 22 full-time management positions. The department is comprised of the Recreation, Parks, and Building Maintenance divisions. The Parks and Recreation Department mission is to provide opportunities for physical, cultural and social well being; protect and enhance the physical environment; and ensure the effective and efficient use of public facilities and open space.</p> <p>The Building Maintenance Division maintains 32 facilities totaling more than 563,000 square feet and over 275 acres of park land. The division provides janitorial, preventative maintenance services, and necessary building and related equipment repairs to all of the City's facilities, including interior and exterior work. This individual possesses journey-level experience in the building trades and demonstrates strong technical expertise across multiple disciplines, including rough and finish carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and general building maintenance.</p> <p>The ideal candidate is proficient in reading blueprints, interpreting diagrams, estimating materials and labor, and executing projects with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate takes pride in producing high-quality craftsmanship, whether constructing structural components, performing facility upgrades, or troubleshooting systems issues. They are also adept at working independently or collaboratively, and may assume a leadership role when required, providing guidance to other maintenance staff or contractors on a project basis.</p> <p>Safety-minded and detail-oriented, the ideal candidate consistently follows City safety protocols, uses tools and equipment responsibly, and demonstrates sound judgment on the job. They are organized and efficient, capable of managing time effectively, completing work orders accurately, and maintaining thorough documentation.</p> <p>Additionally, the ideal candidate has excellent communication skills, a proactive customer service approach, and a strong ability to establish cooperative working relationships with colleagues, city staff, and members of the public. They are committed to maintaining City facilities in top condition and are motivated by the opportunity to contribute to the safety, comfort, and functionality of public spaces in a growing and vibrant community.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:</p> <p>Experience: Four years of progressively more responsible journey-level experience in construction maintenance or in a related field.</p> <p>Training: Equivalent to graduation from high school, supplemented by completion of coursework or an applicable apprenticeship program.</p> <p>Licenses and Certificates: Possession of an appropriate, valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record, which must be maintained as a condition of employment.</p> <p>THE APPLICATION PROCESS:</p> <p>To be considered, applicants must submit the following REQUIRED items:</p> <ul> <li>City application </li><li>Responses to the supplemental questionnaire </li><li>Resume </li></ul> <p>NOTE: Applications must be filled out in their entirety. Social Security and Medicare participation and the option to participate in 457 deferred compensation plans. City contributes equivalent of 1.5% of base pay towards a medical after-retirement account.</p> <p>Health Insurance: City offers a choice of medical HMO (two providers) or PPO plan, and offers vision and dental coverage. City pays 100% of vision and dental premiums for employee and eligible dependents. Employees shall contribute 10% of the HMO premium cost based on category of coverage (single, two, family). For PPO, employee pays cost difference between PPO and HMO plans. City provides 100% City-paid short- and long-term disability insurances.
