<p>POSITION SUMMARY:</p> <p>The Trades Mechanic for the City of Toledo is responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment for the various City locations and buildings. The Trades Mechanic will complete activities related to electrical, plumbing, carpentry, heating, air conditioning and refrigeration.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Maintains, repairs and/or installs plumbing, electrical, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment and systems. </li><li>Operates and/or maintains and repairs boilers and furnaces. </li><li>Performs sheet metal work. </li><li>Performs welding, carpentry, painting and masonry work. </li><li>Repairs and unplugs sewers. </li><li>Maintains and repairs mechanical equipment such as riding mowers and chain saws. </li><li>Performs minor routine maintenance and repair on air compressors, trucks and tractors. </li><li>Maintains and repairs fences. </li><li>Reports to supervisor the necessity for major repair operations. </li><li>Directs work of assigned workers in construction or maintenance and repair activities. </li><li>Operates tools and equipment needed in the performance of duties. </li><li>Maintains routine records. </li><li>Performs other duties as required. </li></ul> <p>REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Knowledge of:</p> <ul> <li>Procedures, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical, plumbing, and heating and air conditioning systems. </li><li>Occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions. </li><li>Boiler operation, maintenance and repair. </li><li>Procedures, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in welding, carpentry, masonry and painting work. </li><li>Relevant State and local codes governing maintenance and repair work. </li></ul> <p>Skill in:</p> <ul> <li>The use of the tools, machinery and equipment of the various skilled trades. </li><li>Reading blueprints and schematics. </li><li>Providing work direction to others. </li><li>Maintaining routine records. </li><li>Verbal communication. </li></ul> <p>Ability to:</p> <ul> <li>Work with individuals of diverse backgrounds. </li><li>Establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, superiors, vendor representatives and clients. </li><li>Multi-task in a fast-paced environment. </li></ul> <p>REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND CERTIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Graduation from high school or General Educational Development (GED) Tests equivalency</p> </li><li> <p>Journeyman status in one of the skilled trades.</p> </li><li> <p>Must possess a valid driver's license.</p> </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>None </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS:</p> <p>The physical demands described within this job description must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The position will frequently require the employee to drive a personal and company owned vehicle. The employee will occasionally lift, push, pull, drag and/or move up to 112 pounds. The employee will frequently carry up to 112 pounds. Occasional stooping, kneeling, crawling, and crouching may occur with this position. Speaking and listening are constant essential functions of this position.</p> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT:</p> <p>The work environment described within this job description will be encountered while performing the essential functions of this job. This employee will have to travel to multiple worksites continuously. At times, this position will require extended work hours. The noise level in the work environment is loud. This employee will occasionally work in conditions where fumes, poor ventilation, mists, odors and gases are present.
