<p>Navajo Preference Employment Act In accordance with Navajo Nation and federal law, TCRHCC has implemented an Affirmative Action Plan pursuant to the Navajo Preference in Employment Act. Pursuant to this Plan and corresponding TCRHCC Policy, applicants who meet the necessary qualifications for this position and (1) are enrolled members of the Navajo Nation, Hopi Tribe, or San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe will be given preference in hiring and employment for this position, (2) are legally married to enrolled members of the Navajo Nation, Hopi Tribe, or San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe and meet residency requirements will be given secondary preference, and (3) are enrolled members of other federally-recognized American Indian Tribes will be given tertiary preference. Overview POSITION SUMMARY Approximately 2,600 surgical cases are performed annually, of which 1,200 are major surgeries. Assignments involve a full range of cases, including the very difficult in their specialty, with little or no technical guidance. Incumbent is responsible for recognizing difficult to identify symptoms and signs. Incumbent is responsible for developing a full treatment regimen involving knowledge of new techniques or use of prolonged or complicated procedures. Qualifications NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS Education: A Medical Degree (MD or DO) from accredited school Completion of a two (2) year residency program in Surgery Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery or the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery License: Must possess and maintain a current and unrestricted license to practice as a physician in any state within the United States, District of Columbia or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. Credentialing: Must be a credentialed member of the TCRHCC Medical Staff Other Skills and Abilities: A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers. All employment references must address and indicate success in each one of the following areas: Positive working relationships with others Possession of high ethical standards and no history of complaints Reliable and dependable; reports to work as scheduled without excessive absences Excellent clinical skills and judgment Extensive administration skills in lead clinical positions involving trauma and general surgery Experience greater than 10 years in rural surgical settings Completion of and above-satisfactory scores on all job interviews, demonstrating to the satisfaction of the interviewees and TCRHCC that the applicant can perform the essential functions of the job Successful completion of and positive results from all background and reference checks, including positive employment references from authorized representatives of past and current employers demonstrating to the satisfaction of TCRHCC a record of satisfactory performance and that the applicant can perform the essential functions of the job Successful completion of fingerprint clearance requirements, physical examinations, and other screenings indicating that the applicant is qualified to be employed by TCRHCC and demonstrating to the satisfaction of TCRHCC that the applicant can perform the essential functions of the job Submission of all required employment-related documents, applications, resumes, references, and other required information free of false, misleading, or incomplete information, as determined by TCRHCC. MENTAL AND PHYSICAL EFFORT The physical and mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical: Must be able to frequently sit, stand, walk several hundred yards quickly, and maintain balance, occasionally drive, bend, climb, kneel, crouch, twist, and reach. Must be able to frequently lift up to 10lbs and occasionally lift/push/pull over 100lbs as needed. Sensory requirements for this position include prolonged near vision, frequent color vision, depth perception, seeing fine details, hearing normal speech, hearing overhead pages, telephone use, and occasional far vision. Must have both hand manipulation ability of frequent simple/firm grasping, fine manipulation, and use of keyboards. Mental: Must be able to work evenings, nights, and weekends on a regular basis and handle the stresses of rural medicine with critically ill patients. Must frequently accept a flexible schedule to meet unit needs. Must have prolonged ability of coping with high levels of stress, making decisions under high pressure, coping with anger/fear/hostility of others in a calm way, manage altercations, concentrate, handle high degree of flexibility, handle multiple priorities in stressful situation, work alone, demonstrate high degree of patience, adapt to shift work, and work in areas that are close and crowded. Environmental: May continually be exposed infectious disease, frequent exposure to chemical agents, and occasional exposure to dust, fumes, gases, extremes in temperature or humidity, hazardous or moving equipment, unprotected heights, and loud noises. Responsibilities Essential Functions Serves as a staff senior surgeon and surgical consultant. Examines, diagnoses, and treats very difficult diseases and injuries by surgical means. Performs major and very difficult surgical operations including such operations as colonoscopy and laparoscopy. When performing these operations, is in complete charge of surgery, guiding and directing the assisting medical officers, nurse anesthetist, and nurses. Serves on hospital committees, participates in the quality assurance reviews and assures that policy and procedure manuals are in accordance with credentialing agencies, such as The Joint Commission (TJC). Refers patient to appropriate contracted medical or other governmental facilities, providing full clinical information for care and diagnostic procedures that cannot be adequately provided at local IHS facilities. Travels to peripheral clinic(s) as scheduled to conduct surgery clinic, to screen patients for surgery, and to perform minor procedures. Assures preparation of appropriate medical records for all patients seen to assure the accumulation and organization of all pertinent clinical data needed to provide comprehensive medical care. Dictates clinical reports and correspondence concerning patients under his/her care to physicians, hospitals, and other individuals and facilities. Works closely with allied health professionals (i.e., Community Health Nurses, Social Workers, Health Educators, etc.) to utilize and coordinate the services of other health care professionals in the management of the patient's medical, psychological and social problems. Responsible for electronic health records data entry pertinent to patient service role. Ensure proper PPE is always worn while on duty including but not limited to, face mask, gloves, gown, isolation gown, NIOSH-approved N95 filtering facepiece respirator or higher, if available), and eye or face shield. Complete all donning Complete all donning and doffing tasks in a safe acceptable method and discard of used PPE accordingly. (see CDC website for most current updates) Complete task training for all routine cleaning and decontamination processes for all surfaces contaminated by a communicable disease to ensure a high level of patient, visitor, employee and external customer satisfaction. Performs other duties as assigned.</p>
