We reserve the right to close this recruitment at any time on or after that date.</p> <p>COMPENSATION</p> <p>Annual Pay Range: $ 53,287.75 - $ 67,307.99</p> <p>Hourly Pay Range: $ 25.619109 - $ 32.359609</p> <p>Starting salaries will be within the posted pay range based on job-related factors such as experience, training, and/or education.</p> <p>JOB DETAILS AND QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>The North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District (NCPRD) seeks a Park Maintenance Specialist to keep public spaces safe, attractive, and welcoming for all.</p> <p>The Park Maintenance Specialist keeps parks, trails, and recreation facilities in excellent condition year-round. This position leads and trains crews, contractors, and volunteers on maintenance and repair projects, ensuring all work meets safety, efficiency, and quality standards. Responsibilities include landscaping, facility and equipment upkeep, irrigation and turf care, and minor carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work. The specialist also maintains sports fields, playgrounds, buildings, and natural areas, while building positive relationships with park visitors, volunteers, and community partners.</p> <p>The ideal candidate brings experience in landscaping, facility maintenance, or park operations. You motivate and guide others, prioritize safety, and manage multiple projects. You work outdoors in all weather, solve problems independently, and approach each task with professionalism and attention to detail. Teamwork, public service, and environmental stewardship are essential.</p> <p>This position allows you to directly care for and sustain NCPRD's parks. We offer competitive pay, professional development, and a dynamic, diverse workplace.</p> <p>Required Minimum Qualifications/Transferrable Skills:*</p> <ul> <li> <p>At least two (2) years of demonstrative experience maintaining landscaped and undeveloped terrain that would provide the following knowledge and skills required to perform the responsibilities of this position:</p> </li><li> <p>Basic plumbing repairs, building fixture and hardware-related repairs, and troubleshooting;</p> </li><li> <p>Basic pruning and tree care techniques;</p> </li><li> <p>Commercial irrigation systems, including repairs, replacement, and diagnostic troubleshooting; and</p> </li><li> <p>Small engine repair, turf equipment, and landscape equipment general maintenance</p> </li><li> <p>Experience leading the work of others</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to communicate effectively with the public, staff, and contractors</p> </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications/Transferrable Skills:*</p> <ul> <li>Experience working in public parks, recreation, or natural resources maintenance environments performing hands-on maintenance of landscaped and natural areas, including trails, sports fields, irrigation systems, and/or park facilities </li><li>International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Arborist Certification </li><li>Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) Public Pesticide Applicators License in the Ornamental and Turf Category </li><li>Certified Playground Inspector (CPI ) certificate </li><li>Experience in building maintenance and repair </li><li>State of Oregon Backflow Assembly Tester Certificate </li></ul> <p>Pre-Employment Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Must pass post-offer, pre-employment drug test. </li><li>Must pass a criminal history check, which may include a national or state fingerprint records check </li><li>Must pass a post-offer physical assessment; accommodation requests will be reviewed on an individual basis in compliance with State and Federal legislation. </li><li>Driving is required for county business on a regular basis or to accomplish work. Incumbents must possess a valid driver's license, and possess and maintain an acceptable driving record throughout the course of employment. </li><li>For veterans qualified for Veterans' Preference: If you believe you have skills that would transfer well to this position and/or special qualifications that relate to this position, please list those skills and/or qualifications in the open-ended question at the end of the application and explain how those skills and/or qualifications relate to this position. </li></ul> <p>TYPICAL TASKS</p> <p>Duties include, but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Schedules, leads, and coordinates the work of regular, temporary assigned personnel in park maintenance and landscaping activities; trains individuals in the safe operation of tools and equipment; assists in evaluating employee performance. </li><li>Maintains landscaped and undeveloped terrain; mows, weeds, rakes, and edges lawns and natural areas; installs turf; applies fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides; installs, operates, and repairs manual and automatic irrigation systems; tills soil and mixes in soil amendments; plants, transplants, mulches, prunes, and fertilizes flowers, shrubs, and trees. </li><li>Assists in maintenance of planting areas; selects and purchases plants for landscaping areas according to plans and specifications; plans and coordinates the use of equipment and materials on maintenance and repair projects; researches prices and availability of equipment and materials; purchases daily maintenance supplies. </li><li>Constructs, maintains, and renovates walkways and trails; clears brush and debris; </li></ul> <p>hauls and spreads gravel, wood chips, and bark dust; installs and repairs gates, barriers, fences, and signs; sweeps paved walks and parking areas.</p> <ul> <li>Maintains and repairs sports fields and recreation areas; moves and arranges equipment; repairs back stops, bases, goal posts, bleachers, picnic tables, and recreation equipment. </li><li>Recommends and participates in repair and improvement of park facilities, including restrooms, recreation buildings, shelters; sweeps and scrubs walls, floors, ceilings, and plumbing fixtures; performs carpentry, painting, minor plumbing, and minor electrical work. </li><li>Performs horticultural work; propagates and cares for a variety of trees, shrubs, ground covers, and other plants. </li><li>Responds to questions, complaints, and requests for service from the public; provides information on park rules and regulations, history, plants, and animals; coordinates activities with caretakers, concessionaires, park rangers, law enforcement officials, volunteer groups, and maintenance contractors. </li><li>Prepares and maintains records on vehicle and equipment maintenance/service schedules. Maintains and records pesticide applicator records and licenses. </li></ul> <p>WORK SCHEDULE</p> <p>This position is included in the County's alternate workweek program, working 40 hours during a standard workweek of Monday through Thursday (Friday through Sunday off). Specific hours of work will be discussed with the candidate selected for this position at the time an offer of employment is extended.</p> <p>This position is designated as on-site/in-person. It is expected that the selected candidate will perform duties at the specified on-site work location.</p> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS</p> <p>Duties require frequent to continuous standing, walking, squatting, kneeling, bending, twisting, balancing, climbing, overhead reaching, grasping, fine motor control, and the ability to carry up to 60 pounds, lift, and push/pull 100 pounds.</p> <p>Duties also involve exposure to confined spaces, loud noises, vibration, slippery and/or uneven surfaces, working at heights, exhaust fumes and dust, chemicals, and adverse weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.</p> <p>BENEFITS INFORMATION</p> <p>Clackamas County proudly offers an attractive compensation and benefits package, including competitive wages, cost-of-living adjustments, merit increases (for eligible employees), and a robust sick and vacation plan for regular status employees.</p> <p>We encourage and support employee health and wellness by offering health and wellness classes and events, and alternative care benefits, so you can customize your wellness needs to fit your lifestyle. Formed in 1990 through voter approval, NCPRD was created to meet the growing need for parks and recreation services in the northern end of the county.</p> <p>Today, NCPRD serves more than 106,000 residents across a 27-square-mile area, including the city of Milwaukie and the surrounding unincorporated areas of Clackamas County. The district features 35 parks and natural areas, two special-purpose areas, and three trails and greenways, including the 6-mile Trolley Trail.
