<p>MARINE FIELD ENGINEER - Vonore, TN</p> <p>Join our team in a pivotal role dedicated to delivering exceptional service and technical expertise to one of Ilmor Marine's largest OEM partners. In this position, you'll serve as the primary on-site technical resource for our marine engines, providing strategic, hands-on support to boat builders. You will lead troubleshooting and diagnostics, address quality-related inquiries, and drive continuous improvement while building strong, productive relationships with OEM representatives.</p> <p>This role is an excellent fit for a self-starter with high energy, strong people skills, mechanical/hands-on skills and a genuine passion for helping others-both over the phone and in person. Success in this position requires deep automotive or marine engine knowledge, a commitment to high-quality data and documentation, and a confident, solutions-oriented mindset.</p> <p>Location: Vonore, TN</p> <p>Training & Onboarding: Initial training will take place in both New Hudson, MI and Vonore, TN.</p> <p>Schedule: Full time, year-round position. Standard Day Shift: 8am - 5pm, all hours on-site</p> <p>Benefits: Day-1 Medical, Dental and Vision Coverage, 401K, and more</p> <p>Salary Range: Based on experience, $80,000+/year</p> <p>Expected annual travel: 20% per year for customer support, training, etc.</p> <p>Essential Duties</p> <p>Customer-Site Engineering & Technical Support</p> <ul> <li>Act as the primary day-to-day communication hub between MasterCraft and Ilmor teams, ensuring alignment, clarity, and rapid resolution of technical matters. </li><li>Deliver daily hands-on engine support directly within MasterCraft's manufacturing operations, troubleshooting issues in real time to keep production flowing smoothly. </li><li>Diagnose and resolve time-critical issues on Ilmor marine engines and associated products with precision and urgency. </li><li>Provide on-site technical training to MasterCraft manufacturing personnel, elevating their knowledge of Ilmor systems and improving build quality. </li><li>Support on-site warranty processes, helping identify root causes and ensuring customer satisfaction. </li><li>Assist in new-boat testing and on-water evaluations to validate engine performance, installation quality, and operational reliability. </li><li>Collaborate with production teams to enhance boat operation procedures, improve installation workflows, and refine marine engine integration. </li><li>Lead and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing issues, installation time, and enhancing overall product effectiveness. </li><li>Participate in engineering support activities as required, serving as an extension of the Ilmor Engineering team on the factory floor. </li><li>Perform other duties as needed to support the success of Ilmor products and customer programs. </li></ul> <p>Technical Documentation, Communication & Remote Support</p> <ul> <li>Maintain detailed documentation of daily service activities, tracking time spent, identifying recurring trends, and supporting the development of corrective action strategies. </li><li>Provide timely responses to emails and phone calls from customers, dealers, and Ilmor colleagues, ensuring dependable communication at all times. </li><li>Use our customized Pit Lane diagnostic platform to support dealers, OEMs, and end users, offering real-time technical troubleshooting via digital messages, email, and phone. </li><li>Assist in the creation of service bulletins by gathering engineering insights and operational data. </li><li>Develop clear, practical technical documentation-including installation work steps, troubleshooting procedures, and contributor content for owner manuals. </li><li>Write and refine troubleshooting guides for Ilmor's Tech Tips publications to support customer education and dealer service teams. </li><li>Provide additional technical support during Ilmor's "90 Days of Summer"-our peak marine customer experience season </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent </li><li>2+ years of experience working with internal combustion engines, either professionally or as a hobby </li><li>2+ years of boating experience </li><li>2+ years' experience utilizing Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel and Outlook </li><li>1+ years of experience working in a customer-service role </li><li>Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal </li><li>Able to travel domestically, often with very limited advanced notice. </li></ul> <p>Skills & Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Functional knowledge of the marine industry and powertrain engines </li><li>Ability to work independently </li><li>Consistently upbeat, empathetic, and reliable </li><li>Time Management - Managing one's own time and the time of others. </li><li>Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. </li><li>Problem Sensitivity - The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem. </li><li>Safe boat operation (recreational marine boats, e.g. towsports) </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements/Work Environment</p> <ul> <li>The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. </li><li>While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand. The employee is frequently required to use their hands and fingers to handle, feel objects, use tools or controls, and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to walk, reach with hands and arms, kneel, crouch, crawl, and talk or hear. </li><li>While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electric shock, and explosives. </li><li>The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. However, some instances of this job may require work in areas where ear protection is necessary. </li></ul>
