<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Located in the heart of New Haven's Audubon Arts District, the ACES Educational Center for the Arts (ECA) is a public, half-time magnet high school serving close to 30 school districts in south central Connecticut and beyond. With its focus on Music, Dance, Theater, Creative Writing, and Visual Arts, ACES ECA believes in the capacity of the arts to create, connect, and transform. The school campus houses multiple gallery and performance spaces and has developed deep community connections in the course of its 50-year history.</p> <p>The Principal serves as an educational leader, overseeing aspects of school culture, continuous improvement and academic success. The Principal works to oversee the adherence of policies, regulations, and procedures to ensure that all students can learn in a safe environment that meets the vision and mission of ACES while providing rigorous arts curriculum that meets the needs of diverse learners.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Promoting equity and diversity among students and staff within the magnet school </li><li>Leading toward equitable academic success for all students </li><li>Facilitating collective capacity building among all stakeholders </li><li>Coordinating with sending school districts and outside agencies </li><li>Supporting, leading and sustaining of an innovative magnet program, </li><li>Ensuring the success and achievement of all students by promoting high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic, social/emotional and behavioral performance. </li><li>Leading within the district and the magnet community </li><li>Implementing practices to recruit, select, support, and retain highly qualified and competent staff. </li><li>Managing organizational systems and resources for a safe, high performing learning environment. </li><li>Leading in a spirit of collaboration with families and stakeholders to respond to diverse needs and interests to promote a positive culture and climate. </li><li>Leading the development and implementation of school goals </li><li>Directing, supervising and evaluating the Assistant Principal, certified, professional, and support staff of ECA </li><li>Developing and designing staff professional learning; encouraging and directing participation in professional learning opportunities that will enhance the magnet theme. </li><li>Seeking out opportunities for self- growth, evaluation and ongoing professional learning </li><li>Interact in a positive and professional manner with students and colleagues </li><li>Participate in assigned trainings and staff development opportunities </li><li>Represents ACES in a positive manner through personal conduct, attendance, and completion of assigned duties. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge of:</p> <ul> <li>Magnet Schools of America pillars and standards </li><li>Magnet recruiting and marketing </li><li>Educational laws, board policies and civil regulations. </li><li>Connecticut high school graduation requirements </li><li>Supervision that is in keeping with the ACES plan and that promotes best instructional practice through effective feedback and support. </li><li>Connecticut Teacher Evaluation models </li><li>Required CSDE reports regarding attendance and discipline matters. </li><li>Confidentiality regarding records in adherence to data privacy regulations. </li><li>Principles and practices for special needs populations; PPT, 504 and IEP requirements. </li><li>Department of Children and Families reporting and supports </li><li>ACES policies and procedures, inclusive of assigned program specific policies and procedures </li><li>Skills in: </li><li>Preparing and monitoring budget and resources related to the school </li><li>Delegating with accountability </li><li>Feedback and coaching to improve student outcomes and personnel performance </li><li>Instructional leadership to assist in the development of curriculum and instructional programs </li><li>Utilizing data and accountability systems to inform decisions toward continuous improvement and evaluate progress toward goals </li><li>Developing, implementing and sustaining shared vision and mission </li></ul> <p>Ability to:</p> <ul> <li>Provide timely communication regarding the needs, successes and general operation of the school. </li><li>Collaborate with all stakeholders for the ongoing improvement for the learning community </li><li>Build positive climate and rapport with all stakeholders </li><li>Focus attention on students: </li><li>Utilizes data to target areas for academic or behavioral improvement. </li><li>Sets standards of behavior based upon the approved Code of Conduct and Discipline Philosophy. </li><li>Interacts with students in a variety of situations. </li><li>Coordinates and supervises students' services. </li><li>Oversees accurate student cumulative information and ensures its proper use. </li></ul>
