Step Salary System to be awarded annually on the anniversary date of hire and would typically start at Step 1. Please note the salary range indicated is firm.</p> <p>Bargaining Unit: BAETI</p> <p>To view the respective collective bargaining agreement please click here.</p> <p>REPORTS TO: Commissioner of Buildings or his/her designee</p> <p>SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: N/A</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</p> <p>Performs inspections and enforces various City ordinances as enumerated in the Manual of Revised City Ordinances of the City of Brockton, including but not limited to;</p> <ul> <li>Rubbish/Trash Ordinance </li><li>Dumpster Ordinance </li><li>Junk Vehicle Ordinance </li><li>Nuisance Ordinance </li><li>Performs inspections and enforces various Public Health Codes, including but not limited to Article II of the State Sanitary Code pertaining to rubbish/trash/garbage </li><li>Performs inspections in conjunction with and may be assigned to the Mayor's Task Force regarding violations of existing ordinances, codes and regulations </li><li>Send letters of violations, conduct re-inspections and issue citations </li><li>Answer questions both on the telephone and at the counter, conduct administrative work associated with code enforcement functions </li><li>Attend Housing and District Court pertaining to the disposition of non-criminal violations associated with the above codes, ordinances and regulations </li><li>Performs similar or related duties as required, as situation dictates or as assigned by the Commissioner of Buildings or designee </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED AT HIRE:</p> <p>High school diploma, with supplemental training; Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in environmental health or a related field desirable; experience with legal enforcement activities desirable; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.</p> <p>ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's License</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of local laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to nuisances </li><li>knowledge of local enforcement practices </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form </li><li>Ability to read and interpret local ordinances and regulations </li><li>Ability to work with inspection personnel and the general public </li><li>Ability to enforce and interpret regulations firmly, tactfully, and impartially </li><li>Excellent communication skills and public relations skills </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS:</p> <p>The employee operates standard office equipment. Minimal physical effort is required to perform administrative work; moderate physical effort is required to conduct work in the field. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, speak and hear, use hands, reach with hands and arms, climb, stoop and is occasionally required to move objects weighing up to ten pounds. Vision requirements include the ability to read and analyze documents and operate a motor vehicle and other equipment.</p> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT:</p> <p>Administrative work is performed in office conditions; frequent inspection work is performed in the field, with exposure to variable weather conditions. Operates standard office equipment and an automobile. Has ongoing contact with the general public and other City departments. Errors could result in personal injury, injury to others, and delay or loss of service.
