<p>Full-Time: 185 Day Contract + 10 extra days</p> <p>Contract Start Date: August 2025</p> <p>Monday - Friday</p> <p>Salary: $51,250 minimum - $83,758 maximum base + Benefits</p> <p>Job Title: School Counselor K-12</p> <p>Revised Date: February 28, 2024</p> <p>Department: Student Services</p> <p>FLSA Status: Exempt</p> <p>Work Year: 185 Days + 10 Extra Days</p> <p>Salary Schedule: CTEA</p> <p>PURPOSE STATEMENT: The role of the School Counselor is dedicated to implementing a comprehensive, developmental guidance and counseling program aligned with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Standards and the ASCA National Model: Define, Manage, Deliver and Assess. This program is designed to support all students in achieving academic success, fostering personal-social growth, aiding in career decision-making, and facilitating community contributions. The School Counselor also acts as a consultant to school staff, parents, and community members.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty/functions satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <p>The school counselor advocates and supports the academic and personal development of all students through the ASCA components:</p> <p>Define: School counselors utilize specific standards (ASCA School Counselor Professional Standards & Competencies and ASCA Student Standards: Mindsets & Behaviors for Student Success) to develop, implement, and assess their school counseling program to improve student outcomes.</p> <ul> <li>School Counseling Framework: Develops a comprehensive school counseling program within district goals and ASCA National Model framework for the purpose of managing and accessing student utilization and outcomes in support of academic, career, and personal/social goals. </li><li>Documentation and Progress Monitoring: Maintain accurate records and monitor student progress to identify issues and take appropriate actions to enhance success. </li><li>Legal and Ethical Responsibility: Adheres to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counseling profession. </li></ul> <p>Manage: School counselors use program focus and planning tools to guide the design and implementation of a school counseling program that enhances student success.</p> <ul> <li>School Data Summary: Assists teachers, parents/guardians, and other stakeholders in interpreting and understanding student data. </li><li>System Support and Integration: Provides appropriate information to school personnel related to the comprehensive school counseling program. </li><li>Resources: Uses available technology and resources to enhance the school counseling program. </li><li>Professional Development: Participates in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills. </li></ul> <p>Deliver: School Counselors use the ASCA Student Standards: Mindsets & Behaviors for Student Success to deliver direct or indirect services to improve student achievement, attendance, and discipline.</p> <ul> <li>Preventive and Responsive Services: Provides short-term individual and/or group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs, implements an effective referral and follow-up process as needed, and accurately and appropriately uses assessment procedures for determining services. </li><li>Individual Student Planning: Assists all students, individually or in groups, with developing academic, career and personal/social skills, goals, and plans. Accurately and appropriately interprets and utilizes student data. Collaborates with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with educational, career, transitions between educational levels, and life planning. </li><li>Collaboration, Consultation, and Information Gathering: Provide educators with current research information to aid in understanding students' affective development, enabling better support for students. Collaborates with a variety of internal and external stakeholders (school administrators, school social workers, special education, teachers, other educational & community resources, parents/guardians, etc.) for the purpose of providing information relative to school counseling program services, crisis management, preventative services, and needs of individual students. </li></ul> <p>Assess: To achieve the best results for students, school counselors regularly assess their comprehensive school counseling program.</p> <ul> <li>Data Compilation and Analysis: Collect and analyze data (e.g. aggregated, disaggregated, individual, etc.) from multiple sources to identify needs, ensure compliance with policies and procedures, and monitor program effectiveness in order to guide future direction of the counseling program. </li><li>Accountability: Conducts a yearly program audit to review the extent of program implementation and effectiveness. Uses data to measure results of the comprehensive school counseling program activities and shares results as appropriate with relevant stakeholders. Monitors student academic performance, behavior, and attendance and facilitates appropriate interventions. </li></ul> <p>OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <ul> <li>Maintain consistent and predictable attendance to meet the requirements of the position. </li><li>Participate in various meetings for the purpose of receiving information or sharing information and expertise with students, colleagues and parents/guardians. </li><li>Confer regularly with immediate supervisor </li><li>Follow all District policies, work procedures and reasonable requests by proper authority </li><li>Perform other additional related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit. </li></ul> <p>EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:</p> <ul> <li>Completion of a supervised practicum and internship in a school setting as part of the master's program. </li><li>Master's degree in school counseling from an accredited institution. </li></ul> <p>LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Wyoming Educator License with a Professional Services Endorsement for School Counselor. </li></ul> <p>CONTINUING EDUCATION:</p> <p>After obtaining licensure and certification, school counselors are required to participate in continuing education to maintain their credentials. This can involve attending workshops, seminars, or completing additional coursework.</p> <p>SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & ABILITIES:</p> <p>Skills: Ability to perform technical tasks, update skills to meet changing job demands, use appropriate assessment instruments, maintain accurate records, manage projects, and utilize relevant software applications. Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff, or district patrons in accordance with district policy and administrative guidelines, state and federal laws.</p> <p>Communication: Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to speak effectively to large and small groups. Excellent human relations skills with the ability to establish good relationships with diverse individuals and groups.</p> <p>Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of the ASCA National Model.
