<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Bethel Public Schools, Bethel, CT</p> <p>Position Title: School Counselor</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in school counseling from an accredited college or university. </li><li>Valid Connecticut School Counselor certification. </li><li>Relevant experience as deemed appropriate by the Board and Administration. </li></ul> <p>REPORTS TO: Principal and/or Designee</p> <p>JOB GOAL:</p> <p>The School Counselor fosters student growth in academic planning, career development, and social-emotional skills, supporting success through the school counseling curriculum and related programs.</p> <p>PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>Developmental School Counseling Curriculum:</p> <ul> <li>Implements and evaluates the district's School Counseling curriculum. </li><li>Facilitates student academic, personal/social, and career growth. </li><li>Collaborates with administrators to monitor, assess, and revise the curriculum. </li><li>Provides instruction in social, emotional, and behavioral learning. </li></ul> <p>Individual Student Planning:</p> <ul> <li>Serves as chairperson and case manager for Section 504 at grades K-12. </li><li>Leads the Planning and Placement Team (PPT) process at grades K-8. </li><li>Assists students in developing and revising Student Success Plans (grades 6-12). </li><li>Supports course selection and scheduling at grades 6-12. </li><li>Chairs parent-staff meetings regarding student performance. </li></ul> <p>Responsive Services:</p> <ul> <li>Provides individual and small-group counseling for students. </li><li>Maintains high availability and fosters positive relationships with students and families. </li><li>Responds to crisis situations, serving on the school crisis team. </li><li>Supports a positive school climate and complies with anti-bullying laws. </li><li>Conducts assessments and data analysis to identify student needs. </li></ul> <p>Collaboration Role:</p> <ul> <li>Engages in SRBI implementation for student success. </li><li>Partners with teachers, administrators, and community organizations. </li><li>Serves on school teams such as Crisis Team, PBIS Team, and Student Assistance Team. </li><li>Refers students and families to district and community resources. </li></ul> <p>Professional Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Maintains confidentiality at all times. </li><li>Supports smooth student transitions across grade levels. </li><li>Advocates for student learning opportunities and career pathways. </li><li>Pursues professional development and adheres to ASCA ethical standards. </li><li>Fulfills other responsibilities assigned by the Principal or Director of Special Education and Pupil Services. </li></ul>
