<p>Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) is seeking a Part-Time Physician Assistant for the Surgical Transitions for Aging Residents (STAR) Program. Under physician supervision, provides medical and surgical care to patients of varying type and acuity.</p> <p>To share this posting, please use this link</p> <p>FULL-TIME BENEFITS PACKAGE:</p> <ul> <li>Wellness reimbursement. </li><li>Continuing education and tuition reimbursement. </li><li>Employer-funded retirement plan. </li><li>Two medical plan options: PPO and High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) with employer HSA contribution. </li><li>Flexible work solutions based on position and department. </li><li>Up to four weeks of PTO accrual beginning in year one. </li><li>Paid holidays. </li><li>Paid volunteer time. </li><li>Paid preferred holiday. </li></ul> <p>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Functions in the role of advanced practitioner to coordinate comprehensive care delivery in the geriatric and surgical populations. </li><li>Performs assessment of patient health status by obtaining health and medical history, performing physical examinations identifying medical and health risk and needs, and records changes in health status. </li><li>Performs and/or assists with designated procedures both in and out of the operating room and outpatient ambulatory clinic procedure room. </li><li>Writes orders/prescriptions for standard formulary medications, laboratory, radiographic studies and consultations. </li><li>Coordinates the scheduling of admissions, diagnostic evaluations, follow-up exams, laboratory tests, referral to home care, social services, and other agencies in order to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services. </li><li>Documents in the medical record and dictates information as appropriate. </li><li>Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books, journals and other literature. </li><li>Attends related conferences, seminars and other related activities. </li><li>Provides input into the strategic planning, implementation and evaluation of the geriatric surgery program. </li><li>Availability to work occasional overtime on weekends or evenings to complete time sensitive projects. </li><li>Acquires knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions. </li><li>All other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:</p> <ul> <li>Meets state requirements governing the qualification for Physician Assistants. </li><li>Knowledge of the laws of the State of Michigan in regard to clinical activities and the Code of Ethics of the American Academy of Physician Assistants. </li><li>Experience and interest in assisting with surgical procedures is preferred. </li></ul> <p>LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Licensed in the State of Michigan as a Physician Assistant or eligible to be licensed as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan required. </li><li>Michigan Controlled Substance License required. </li><li>Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program required. </li><li>Current NCCPA certification or eligible for certification required. </li><li>Maintenance of CPR certification; BLCS certification preferred. </li></ul> <p>OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to work varied hours. </li><li>Ability to work effectively and efficiently under tight deadlines, high volumes and multiple interruptions. </li><li>Ability to make quality, independent decisions. </li><li>Excellent time management skills. </li><li>Independently mobile. </li><li>Demonstrates knowledge of and follows preventive measures to minimize exposure to blood and air borne pathogens. </li><li>Ability to effectively communicate with others verbally and in writing. </li><li>Ability to operate standard office equipment such as multi-line telephone, dictation equipment, copier, fax machine, etc. </li><li>Ability to accept and apply feedback. </li><li>Regular and predictable attendance is expected. </li><li>Demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities in organization of work flow. </li><li>Able to perform duties independently, with a minimal need for direct supervision. </li></ul>
