<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Function of Position:</p> <p>The FWD-Center at Monroe Community College is seeking a skilled and motivated Part-Time Instructor to teach our WPLU-100 Plumbing Level 100 course for our New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) apprenticeship courses. This course serves as an introductory foundation for students interested in the Plumbing trades. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience and knowledge from the Plumbing industry and a passion for mentoring and preparing students for success in the workforce through real-world learning.</p> <ul> <li>This is a part-time, temporary position </li></ul> <p>Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Provide instruction aligned with NYSDOL Apprenticeship standards and industry best practices. </li><li>Create engaging lessons that incorporate practical, hands-on learning activities. </li><li>Maintain a safe, organized classroom and shop/lab environment. </li><li>Teach and demonstrate correct and safe use of tools, equipment, and materials. </li><li>Facilitate and complete student Registration Confirmation and Course Evaluation forms. </li><li>Administer and maintain Module exams, Entry quizzes, lab activities, student grades, and attendance records with proper documentation and signature verification, to be submitted to the Skilled trades Manager as required. </li><li>Collaborate with the FWD Center staff, industry partners, and Community Based Organizations to support student growth and career readiness. </li><li>Monitor and assess student progress; provide timely feedback and support. </li><li>Encourage the development of both technical skills and professional work habits. </li><li>Participate in professional development and maintain relevant industry certifications. </li></ul> <p>Topics Covered Include:</p> <ul> <li>Introduction to the Plumbing Profession </li><li>Plumbing Safety </li><li>Tools of the Plumbing Trade </li><li>Introduction to Plumbing Math </li><li>Introduction to Plumbing Drawings </li><li>Plastic Pipe and Fittings </li><li>Copper Tube and Fittings </li><li>Cast-Iron Pipe and Fittings </li><li>Steel Pipe and Fittings </li><li>Introduction to Plumbing Fixtures </li><li>Introduction to Drain, Waste, and Vent (DWV) Systems </li><li>Introduction to Water Distribution System </li></ul> <p>MCC Expectations:</p> <ul> <li>Adheres to the College Code of Conduct. </li><li>Contributes to, supports, and maintains an equitable, inclusive, and collaborative College environment. </li><li>Maintains technological competencies utilized by the College. </li><li>Commits to the philosophy of a comprehensive community college. </li><li>Commits to professional growth. which includes seeking ongoing training in diversity, equity and inclusion to better serve students. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>Required Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or GED required </li><li>Minimum 6-8 years of experience in the construction or building trades industry </li><li>OSHA 10 or 30 safety certification </li><li>Current or eligible for a CTE credential in Construction or related field (or willing to pursue credentialing) </li><li>Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills </li><li>Commitment to student success, equity, and career readiness </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Associate's or Bachelor's degree related to CTE and construction trades </li><li>Previous teaching or training experience </li><li>Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently </li></ul> <p>Systems and Software Proficiency:</p> <ul> <li>Proficiently use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) for documentation, reporting, and communication. </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to lift and carry supplies and equipment (up to 50 lbs.) </li><li>Ability to set up, breakdown, and maintain lab storage and equipment, which may require bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Salary: Based on Skills and Experience Starting at $36.00/hr.</p> <p>Schedule: 6-8 hrs./week</p> <p>MCC offers a Flexible Work Policy for benefit eligible employees. Types of flexible work arrangements include flextime/staggered shifts, remote work/telecommuting and compressed work schedule. The availability of flexible work arrangements varies by division, department, and position, based upon business and operational needs. Limitations to flexible work arrangements are outlined in the official policy.</p> <p>Prohibition of Remote Work Outside New York State: Remote work locations outside New York State are not authorized by the College due to out-of-state tax and regulatory implications.
