<p>Position Summary</p> <p>The Part-Time Temporary Makerspace Assistant provides operational support for the day-to-day activities of the Velocity Center Makerspace. This role supports makerspace users, ensures equipment readiness, and helps maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming environment during open lab hours and scheduled activities.</p> <p>Schedule:Wednesday-Thursday 3:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m.; 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Second Saturday per month. Additional hours may be required based on operational needs.</p> <p>Location: CSM Makerspace at the Velocity Center, Indian Head, MD</p> <p>Report to: Velocity Center Makerspace Coordinator</p> <p>The College of Southern Maryland conducts background checks in order to ensure the safety and well-being of the College's staff and students. The final candidate for this position will be subject to the following background checks: Criminal History Check and Sex Offender Registry Check.</p> <p>This position is open until filled. The College of Southern Maryland is an Equal Opportunity Employer.</p> <p>Specific Duties and Responsibilities</p> <p>Makerspace Operations & User Support</p> <ul> <li>Provide on-site coverage during assigned shifts and serve as a point of contact for members, students, faculty, and visitors. </li><li>Assist users with general questions related to makerspace policies, equipment use, and safety expectations. </li><li>Support set up and breakdown for makerspace activities, including classes and open lab hours. </li><li>Follow established procedures to ensure smooth daily operations and escalate issues as needed. </li></ul> <p>Equipment, Safety & Space Maintenance</p> <ul> <li>Assist with routine equipment checks and basic troubleshooting. </li><li>Monitor makerspace activity to ensure compliance with safety protocols. </li><li>Maintain a clean, organized, and functional workspace. </li><li>Report on equipment issues, safety concerns, or maintenance needs to the Makerspace Coordinator </li></ul> <p>Inventory & Administrative Support</p> <ul> <li>Assist with tracking and restocking materials and supplies. </li><li>Maintain basic operational records such as usage logs and activity notes. </li><li>Support adherence to established procedures and documentation practices. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Education and Training</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or equivalent </li><li>Strong customer service and communication skills </li><li>Ability to work independently and reliably during assigned shifts. </li><li>Comfort working in a hands-on, technical environment. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Experience in a makerspace, lab, workshop, or technical environment </li><li>Familiarity with tools such as 3D printers, laser cutters, or similar equipment </li><li>Experience supporting safety protocols or working with the public. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Ability to operate and maneuver equipment within a makerspace environment. </li><li>Ability to understand and follow safety instructions. </li><li>Ability to lift up to 20 pounds. </li></ul>
