<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Dean College's School of Liberal Arts and Sciences is looking for a dynamic, experienced, student-centered educator to teach two sections of Introduction to Statistics (MTH-130) in-person during the Spring 2026 semester. The College seeks Adjunct Faculty who focus on experiential learning and active engagement in their classrooms. Adjuncts chosen to teach at Dean create a compelling and professional learning environment for students of diverse learning backgrounds.</p> <p>Course Description:</p> <p>MTH-130: Introduction to Statistics: Topics include descriptive statistics, measures of central tendency and dispersion, probability rules and probability distributions, the central limit theorem and simple hypothesis testing. Application to real-world problems is stressed throughout the course. Offered every semester. This course fulfills the Core Mathematics requirement.</p> <p>Introduction to Statistics is a 3-credit course. Each section meets for lecture for 2.5 hours/week. The adjunct pay rate is $3,300 per section. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold one office hour each week for each section they teach. The program provides a course charter with course objectives as well as sample syllabi. All faculty are expected to make active use of the learning management system (Canvas) at least at a minimum level established by the College.</p> <p>The sections are scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday from 12:30-1:45pm and Tuesday and Thursday 2:00-3:15pm.</p> <p>Position responsibilities include:</p> <ul> <li>Deliver and assess course learning objectives and outcomes consistent with the course charter in person for two 75-minute class sessions each week. </li><li>Hold at least one office hour each week for each section. </li><li>Be responsive and supportive of students learning and concerns or questions. </li><li>Use Canvas to post course materials and assignment deadlines, post grades on the gradebook in Canvas and enter attendance on the Canvas attendance log. </li><li>Assess student learning in the classroom. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in math or a related field is required; PhD in a related discipline is preferred. </li><li>Experience teaching at the college level in person is required; experience teaching first and second year undergraduates is preferred. </li><li>Strong computer skills are required. </li><li>Experience using technologies and/or strategies to enhance pedagogy is required. </li><li>Ability and willingness to be responsive and supportive to students through college online resources and digital tools is required. </li><li>Experience with or willingness to learn Canvas, our learning management system, and classroom media is required. </li><li>Expertise in learner-centered teaching is required. </li><li>Experience and ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse student body with a variety of learning styles, required. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Dean College is an equal-opportunity, Title IX institution and pledges to recruit, select and promote diversity by providing equality of opportunity in higher education for all persons, including faculty and staff with respect to hiring, continuation, promotion, and applicants for admission, enrolled students and graduates without discrimination or segregation.</p> <p>The College is interested in candidates who have the communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of colleagues, students, faculty, and community members.
