<p>This is a temporary part-time position working no more than 125 hours per month.</p> <p>If you would like to work on a seasonal basis only (opens in April and ends in October), please apply to our Seasonal Groundskeeper position.</p> <p>This position is essential to Salt Lake Community College to maintain the grounds to ensure they are clean, safe, accessible, and inviting. Expected work hours are 6am to 12pm (noon), Monday through Thursday. Some Friday work may be available depending on the campus. Extended hours as late as 4:30pm may be offered to employees who exhibit superior work ethic.</p> <p>This position may begin as early as March 1, and is anticipated to end in late autumn or early winter, as weather permits.</p> <p>Essential Responsibilities and Duties</p> <ul> <li>Basic landscaping skills: Mowing, edging, and trimming grass lawns. Weeding, leaf blowing, pruning, trimming hedges, debris/trash/leaf clean up, basic tree maintenance, planting, watering plants, and maintaining gardens in various areas on SLCC grounds. </li><li>Equipment operation: Ability to safely operate and maintain gardening and landscaping hand tools and power equipment. </li><li>Physical stamina: Capability to perform physically demanding tasks, standing, stooping, lifting 50lbs. </li><li>Outside temperatures: Prepared to be working outside in a variety of temperatures. </li><li>Attention to detail: Ensuring the grounds are well-maintained and aesthetically pleasing. </li><li>Communication skills: Ability to follow instructions. Interacting with Grounds Director, Manager, Supervisor, and/or Team Leads to understand their expectations and vision for the space and the position. The ability to work amicably and cooperatively with fellow groundskeepers. </li><li>Basic Computer skills: Will be required to account for time in work order system, take required SLCC Online trainings and safety trainings. </li></ul> <p>Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Flexibility: Availability to work morning shift part-time hours (6 am to noon). </li><li>Safety awareness: Knowledge of safe handling of tools and chemicals used in landscaping. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Previous experience will be considered when determining starting pay. </li><li>Utah Driver's License </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills & Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Able to do moderate lifting up to 50 lbs. </li><li>Physical activity involves bending, stooping, climbing etc. </li><li>Ability to follow instructions and perform manual labor i.e., weed pulling, pruning, turf mowing tasks, operate equipment safely, trash pickup, repair irrigation systems (heads, valves, pipe). </li><li>Must take required SLCC trainings and safety trainings offered at SLCC. </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College. </li><li>Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities. </li></ul> <p>Non-Essential Responsibilities and Duties Special Instructions</p> <p>Please note: this position is an open applicant pool; applications are reviewed when there is a hiring need.</p> <p>Schedule can vary.
