<p>University of Iowa Health Care Information Systems and Bioengineering has a great opportunity to join our team as an Engineering Associate! In this role, you will complete a variety of medical equipment repairs, safety verification and preventive maintenance tasks on a broad range of patient care equipment and/or systems of moderate complexity under minimal supervision. You will serve as the front-line customer contact for assigned departments and complete assigned projects and installations according to manufacturer or regulatory requirements. You may need to respond to after-hours troubleshooting and repair calls.</p> <p>This posting is for two positions and are located at Main Campus - 200 Hawkins Dr Iowa City, IA.</p> <p>Position Responsibilities:</p> <p>Analysis:</p> <ul> <li>Read PM procedures, gather equipment and tools to complete the work </li><li>Document maintenance performed, and parts used in the maintenance management system </li></ul> <p>Engineering Project Management:</p> <ul> <li>Independently complete directed assignments such as: </li><li>Assist with check-in and activation of equipment for go-live of new units/projects </li><li>Unpacking and assembly of medical equipment, attaching labels, completing initial preventive maintenance inspections and delivery of equipment </li><li>Configuration updates, recall remediation updates of limited complexity or scope </li></ul> <p>Compliance:</p> <ul> <li>Preventive maintenance and repair work in accordance with Joint Commission, College of American Pathologists or other regulatory standards </li><li>Follow manufacturer repair or preventive maintenance procedures </li><li>May occasionally include repair and maintenance of specialized or specialty equipment </li></ul> <p>Planning:</p> <ul> <li>May be asked for input when planning a project that will involve the technician's effort to complete </li><li>May be asked to create, sort, and/or filter a list of equipment affected by a project </li><li>May be asked to assemble tools required for completing project and plan/prioritize the order in which the identified project tasks are completed </li></ul> <p>Application of Technical Knowledge:</p> <ul> <li>Measure voltages, current and other electronic characteristics to rule out, isolate or diagnose the cause of equipment failures </li><li>Evaluate electrical or mechanical specifications of replacement parts to determine if the parts will fit the application </li><li>Swap and exchange system assemblies or components to identify equipment failures </li><li>Troubleshoot equipment problems through an understanding of equipment function and use </li><li>May respond to after-hours on-call support of medical equipment, escalating to supervisory personnel when additional support is needed </li></ul> <p>Communication:</p> <ul> <li>Explain repairs and repair costs to clinical users to assist them with deciding whether to take equipment out of service </li><li>May participate in training new Bioengineering staff by explaining procedures or engineering tasks involved with repair and maintenance </li></ul> <p>Leadership:</p> <ul> <li>May on occasion provide functional direction of new staff and students on a limited scope </li></ul> <p>Financial Responsibility:</p> <ul> <li>Obtain part or repair pricing from equipment vendors for special order parts or proposed stock items </li><li>Obtain RMA from company for vendor depot repairs </li><li>Arrange vendor on-site repairs </li><li>Request a PO from Supply Chain Associate and place orders when needed </li></ul> <p>Health Care Information Systems (HCIS): Provides and supports information and communication systems and technology that facilitate quality patient care, progressive medical education, and innovative research.</p> <p>HCIS services University of Iowa Health Care by providing comprehensive, high-level support for patient care delivery, internal and external communication, technology innovation, medical education, and research. Complete information regarding the full benefits package may be viewed at https://hr.uiowa.edu/benefits </li><li>Percent of Time: 100% </li><li>Location: 200 Hawkins Dr Iowa City, IA </li><li>Staff Type: Professional & Scientific </li><li>Type of Position: Regular </li></ul> <p>Education Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree within biomedical engineering or related technical discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience. </li></ul> <p>Experience Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Typically, 0-1 years of experience working with biomedical equipment or healthcare technology. </li><li>Basic knowledge of medical equipment function. </li><li>Basic understanding of common clinical terminology as well as that of life sciences such as anatomy and physiology. </li><li>Basic electronic training with knowledge of electronic theory and technology. </li><li>Must meet the University of Iowa Fleet Services program rules and regulations, due to the ability to drive University vehicles. </li></ul> <p>Desired Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Experience maintaining medical equipment in a field service or healthcare environment. </li><li>Experience with Philips PICiX and Intellivue monitoring products. </li><li>Experience with BD Alaris infusion pump product lines. </li></ul> <p>To be considered, applicants must upload a resume (under submission relevant materials) that clearly addresses how they meet the listed required and desired qualifications of this position.
