<p>Job Overview</p> <p>The job of Inclusion Assistant is to provide support to the instructional program with specific responsibility for assisting in the supervision and instruction of individual students or small groups of students with special needs and/or severely special needs; observing and documenting student progress; implementing plans for instruction; and assisting students by providing for special health care needs all while promoting student independence.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <p>Student Supervision and Instruction</p> <ul> <li>Provides instruction, under the supervision of the teacher, to the student(s) in a variety of individual and group activities (e.g. academic subjects, social skills, daily living skills, giving oral tests, etc.) for the purpose of reinforcing instructional objectives, implementing IEPs, and ensuring students' success in school. </li><li>Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives. </li><li>Communicates with supervising instructional staff and professional support personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and/or implementing IEP objectives. </li><li>Attends meetings and in-service presentations (e.g. BSET, first aid, CPR, emergency procedures, behavior management, IEPs, etc.) for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions. </li><li>Monitors students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments (e.g. lunch, bus stops, yard, classroom, restroom, field trips, public transportation, assemblies, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment. </li><li>Participates in the implementation of student behavior plans for the purpose of ensuring effective and safe student learning. </li><li>Participates in the implementation of the for the purpose of meeting IEP goals and/or district benchmarks. </li><li>Help enforce school policies and procedures, including the school-wide discipline plan, throughout the entire campus. </li></ul> <p>Student and Family Relations</p> <ul> <li>Help to maintain a positive, nurturing and achievement-oriented school culture that includes college preparation for all students. </li><li>Build relationships with families to keep them well-informed and support their needs. </li><li>Assist with and attend meetings on evenings and weekends when necessary. </li></ul> <p>Other Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Attend to student needs and injuries, report all student injuries and direct the students to first aid in the office if applicable. </li><li>Assist with student supervision on field trips when needed. </li><li>Become familiar with and assist with the implementation of the School Safety Plan. </li><li>Assist with other duties as needed, including light custodial work (i.e., emptying trash, sweeping floors, emergency cleanup, etc.). </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Qualifications and Desired Characteristics</p> <ul> <li>Proficient in English and bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus. </li><li>Experience working in a classroom setting especially one serving moderate to severe special needs students. </li><li>Experience with Microsoft Office and Excel. </li><li>Able to lift heavy objects up to 30 lbs. </li><li>Positive attitude and friendly demeanor. </li><li>Willing to take initiative and be a team player. </li></ul> <p>Education</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree </li></ul> <p>Synergy Academies is an equal opportunity employer.
