<p>Job Description:</p> <p>District CARE Team Special Education Teacher</p> <p>Position Overview</p> <p>The CARE Team Special Education Teacher is a specialized dual-role professional who integrates intensive special education expertise with the Community Assessment, Response, and Engagement (CARE) program. This role serves as a vital educational component of a multi-disciplinary team, providing a trauma-informed, person-centered approach to students with disabilities who are experiencing behavioral health crises or significant social/emotional challenges.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities</p> <p>In collaboration with building based teams, provide instructional & programmatic support:</p> <ul> <li>IEP Development & Implementation: develop, align, and modify Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) to meet the academic and social/emotional needs of students in receipt of special education services in crisis </li><li>Data-Driven Programming: Utilize standardized, diagnostic, and progress monitoring data to develop specialized programming and support programmatic recommendations. </li><li>Behavioral Support: Assist students and staff in the proactive implementation of behavior support plans, problem-solving skills, and positive peer interactions. </li></ul> <p>In collaboration with the CARE Team Social Worker, support clinical & crisis intervention:</p> <ul> <li>Mobile Crisis Response: Provide immediate, on-site clinical assessment and intervention for students experiencing behavioral health crises within the school or community. </li><li>Harm Reduction: Implement person-centered strategies and self-regulation techniques to improve student outcomes and reduce reliance on emergency department services. </li><li>Collaborative Intervention: Work in direct partnership with emergency responders and school staff to address situations that may not require traditional police or emergency room intervention. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications & Skills</p> <ul> <li>Certification: Must hold (or be eligible for) CT Certification #165: Comprehensive Special Education, K-12. </li><li>Expertise in Special Education IEP Development: for students: Demonstrated experience in crisis intervention, trauma-informed care, and behavioral health assessment. </li><li>Legal Knowledge: Clear understanding of Special Education law, research-based interventions, and state/federal compliance regulations. </li><li>Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in a "co-responder" model within a multi-disciplinary team and establish cooperative relationships with colleagues and families. </li><li>Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to articulate evaluation results and engage with diverse populations during high-stress situations. </li></ul> <p>Application Procedure: Submit an online application, an attached cover letter, a resume, 3 letters of recommendation, transcripts, and certification.
