<p>Job Summary:</p> <p>Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine (KPSOM) has initiated a nationwide search for an innovative educator, administrator, and scholar to serve as its Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs (SADFA). This leader will work as a key member of the dean's leadership team in support of the more than 1600 faculty at KPSOM.</p> <p>Reporting directly to the Dean, and working collaboratively with the leadership team, the SADFA provides leadership and oversight of programs to promote faculty development, enhance diversity, support faculty advancement and create a culture of scholarly excellence and a positive learning environment. The SADFA provides oversight of, and guidance for, all key processes of faculty governance and mechanisms for faculty advancement. They will develop and manage processes of faculty appointments and promotions, oversee the selection of faculty members for KPSOM standing committees, and help develop and manage faculty training/development programs. The SADFA will provide support for annual faculty assessment and work collaboratively with the department chairs and the Office of Medical Education to ensure appropriate action and intervention for faculty needs and deficiencies. This position works closely with leadership related to Permanente physician faculty and with other institutions from which visiting, adjunct, or part-time faculty may be appointed.</p> <p>The SADFA will have a distinguished record of achievement commensurate with that of a senior associate dean at the equivalent of associate professor level or higher, with significant expertise in one or more areas of clinical, biomedical and/or health systems science, and/or medical education, and regional/national recognition in their field(s) of study. The SADFA must have the ability to exercise sound and fair judgment in applying and interpreting policies and procedures; superior interpersonal skills to establish and maintain trusted working relationships with faculty members and all levels of personnel; recognition by the faculty as a role model; and effective, clear, and concise oral and written communication skills.</p> <p>Successful candidates will not only have strong credentials in their field, but also enthusiasm for being part of the leadership of a unique medical school. As an integral member of the Dean's leadership team, this individual will work closely with the team to develop strategic and tactical plans for implementation of KPSOM.</p> <p>The goal of KPSOM is to prepare a new generation of physicians to influence positive change within the nation's healthcare systems by offering its students an innovative curriculum based on three fundamental pillars: biomedical, clinical, and health systems science, which correspond to the three departments that house the faculty. The curriculum provides the unique opportunity to have access to the people, data, and technology of Kaiser Permanente, one of the nation's highest-performing healthcare systems, integrated into their education. Materials will be reviewed immediately and will continue to be reviewed until the position is filled.</p> <p>Essential Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Support all aspects of faculty governance structures and processes that create fair and equitable standing for all faculty, including overseeing a faculty assembly at least annually. </li><li>Oversee the development of procedures and policies that affect faculty, revising as needed, and ensure the dissemination of this information through appropriate mechanisms such as a faculty handbook and website. </li><li>Support the implementation of policies that define the standards of professionalism and integrity that apply to all faculty. </li><li>Collaborate with elected faculty leaders, providing support and guidance. </li><li>Create and implement a sustainable model for faculty development, recognition, and advancement through identifying and fostering effective open recruitment processes, orientation for new faculty, and provision of mentoring and developmental opportunities at all career stages with a focus on career progression and retention. </li><li>Work with the Dean, Department Chairs, and other administrative leaders to establish an effective approach to managing faculty grievances. </li><li>Facilitate conflict resolution for faculty, representing KPSOM in informal and formal faculty grievance proceedings and working with the Dean and other leadership as appropriate. </li><li>Facilitate central management of faculty honors and awards, including internal and external opportunities. This includes notification to faculty of available awards, the active identification of qualified candidates for each award, and guidance for faculty in the application and nomination processes. </li><li>Represent KPSOM at national and regional levels on policy issues relating to the appointment and development of faculty. </li><li>Collaborate with KPSOM leadership to create and implement a culture of innovation, inclusion, well-being, and commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. </li><li>Oversee the maintenance, analysis, and effective utilization of faculty data for internal and external audiences as appropriate. </li><li>Serve on relevant school committees to represent faculty and deans office interests. </li><li>Actively participate in accreditation processes. </li><li>Provide appropriate staff supervision, budget and finance management, and staff recruitment and retention support to ensure the successful achievement of all faculty affairs responsibilities. </li><li>Option for clinical practice can be considered (approximately 10%). </li></ul>
