Please send your updated Word or PDF format resume to Beth at bsprague@blackrockres.com</p> <p>#LI-BS1</p> <p>Position Overview</p> <p>We are seeking a highly experienced Civil Subject Matter Expert (SME) with deep expertise in foundation design and substation infrastructure to support large-scale energy and power delivery projects across California.</p> <p>This individual will serve as a technical authority and advisor, providing guidance across engineering design, construction execution, and project delivery. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in substation civil design, geotechnical coordination, and foundation systems supporting high-voltage infrastructure.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities</p> <p>Technical Leadership</p> <ul> <li> <p>Serve as the civil engineering SME for substation and energy infrastructure projects</p> </li><li> <p>Provide expert guidance on foundation design, including drilled piers, shallow foundations, mat foundations, and equipment supports</p> </li><li> <p>Review and validate civil and structural designs for substations, switchyards, and related facilities</p> </li><li> <p>Support engineering teams with constructability reviews and value engineering recommendations</p> </li></ul> <p>Substation & Site Development</p> <ul> <li> <p>Lead civil scope for greenfield and brownfield substation projects</p> </li><li> <p>Oversee grading, drainage, access roads, retaining structures, and site layout</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure integration of civil designs with electrical and structural requirements</p> </li></ul> <p>Geotechnical & Foundation Coordination</p> <ul> <li> <p>Interface with geotechnical engineers to interpret soil reports, seismic considerations, and ground improvement strategies</p> </li><li> <p>Provide recommendations for foundation types based on site conditions and equipment loads</p> </li><li> <p>Evaluate settlement, slope stability, and site-specific risks</p> </li></ul> <p>Construction & Field Support</p> <ul> <li> <p>Provide support during construction including RFI responses, field issue resolution, and design clarifications</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in site visits and inspections as needed</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure alignment between design intent and field execution</p> </li></ul> <p>Compliance & Standards</p> <ul> <li> <p>Ensure designs comply with California codes, seismic requirements, and utility standards</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain adherence to industry standards (IEEE, ASCE, ACI, Caltrans where applicable)</p> </li><li> <p>Support permitting and regulatory coordination</p> </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li> <p>Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Master's preferred)</p> </li><li> <p>Professional Engineer (PE) license required (California strongly preferred)</p> </li><li> <p>10-15+ years of experience in civil engineering for power/energy infrastructure</p> </li><li> <p>Proven experience with substation design and construction</p> </li><li> <p>Extensive experience with foundation systems for heavy equipment and structural loads</p> </li><li> <p>Strong understanding of California seismic design requirements</p> </li><li> <p>Experience working on utility-scale or EPC projects</p> </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li> <p>Experience supporting major utilities (e.g., PG&E, SCE, SDG&E)</p> </li><li> <p>Background in high-voltage transmission or distribution projects</p> </li><li> <p>Familiarity with EPC execution models and multidisciplinary coordination</p> </li><li> <p>Experience in construction oversight or owner's engineering roles</p> </li></ul> <p>Key Skills & Competencies</p> <ul> <li> <p>Deep technical expertise in foundation and geotechnical integration</p> </li><li> <p>Strong communication skills with ability to influence engineering and construction teams</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to work independently in a consultative SME role</p> </li><li> <p>Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving capabilities</p> </li><li> <p>Comfortable working in a fast-paced, project-driven environment</p> </li></ul> <p>Contract Details</p> <ul> <li> <p>Duration: 24 months</p> </li><li> <p>Location: California (San Francisco Bay area and Gilroy)</p> </li><li> <p>Schedule: Full-time contract (40+ hours/week expected)</p> </li><li> <p>Compensation: Competitive hourly rate (based on experience)</p> </li><li> <p>Per Diem / Travel: May be provided based on project location</p> </li></ul>
